Why is it that politicians pretend to care but when they get in office it is all about them and THEIR agenda? I thought it was about the people? When it comes time for re-election their VALUES pop back up and caring starts? Why do we fall for it? Why cant we see past it? Why is it all about money? I personally would vote for a normal person if I KNEW they could fix this country regardless of race age gender spirituality and party. It wouldnt have to be a college education silver spoon. Just someone that can fix this country. Please answer! Thanks. I was just wondering?

This has to be one of the most important questions posted on Yahoo Answers in a long time. So thankyou first, for simply asking. But my real thank you will come after you take action.

Before we travel down that road too far let rewind. In 1913, Congress passed legislation that made the central bank of the United States (the Federal Reserve) a privately owned corporation and, incidentally, this was the same year the income tax came 'into effect.' Most people are obtusely unaware of the case of Beversdorf v. IRS (and the objective/independent mainstream media would never cover this as a news item but we'll disect journalism later). In fact, you'd be hard pressed to even find that case if you searched full time for a decade.

It's buried and you still pay your taxes. That's the bottom line.

In 1900, before the owners of the Federal Reserve took complete control of our nation's monetary system, and a great deal of control over our nation's economy, the average American paid about 5% of their earnings to support government (local, state and federal combined) and longterm public debt was non-existent. By the year 2000, after 86 years of the owners of the Federal Reserve being the ultimate economic power of the United States of America (see Great Depression/Milton Friedmans and current Fed Chairman Bernanke's admission that their policies precipitated and perpetuated the greatest financial crime American's have ever had to endure), the average American paid over 33% of their earnings (through the various forms of taxation) to support government.

We're like a frog being slowly boiled to death without realizing it. We still sit in the pot. And this fails to include the combined government debt that you owe for your portion of local, state and federal government. They're lying to us about that number as well.

The owners of the Federal Reserve stay in the shadows. They own the mainstream media by controlling the majority shares of stock and one of their 14 point agenda is to control the flow of information. They don't care which "party" is in power only that the politicians be subservient to their agenda: wait until you find out what that is. Let me know when you do.

You'd be absolutely amazed at all the corporations they control (again by controlling the majority stock) and even the fact that they control Hollyweird.

What does all of this have to do with your question? It's not so much the personal agenda of our politicians that we should worry over. It's the agenda of the owners of the Federal Reserve we ought to pay close attention to.

Do you still believe America is a free nation? Why have you never heard any of this (likely) from your elected officials or the media before?

Why are Americans so blind to the facts and taken in by the smoke and mirrors of politics? It is about money that's for certain but that's only the tip of the iceberg. It's about power: unlimited power.

Fortunately, there is something you can do about this. The question remains: do you have the spine to stand up publicly? Why shuck off leadership to politicians who have demonstrated their spinelessness when you can stand up and lead (even if only locally).

Why whine about politicians and then fail, yourself, to do anything about things? I've been there. I've run for office. You ought to try it and see things from the other side of the coin. Do you have any idea how incredibly difficult it is to find many people who will do anything at all? It's like a camel passing through the eye of a needle (for a rich man to enter Heaven).

I may again run for public office. Or I may not. If the people fail to care enough to take action, besides complaining, then it's like being Ron Paul in Congress.

Congressman Paul is purported to be interested in the 2008 Presidential race. Out of all the candidates, who have been mentioned, he's the only one who has the spine to ignore party politics or prevailing political winds and has the record to prove that he's the only candidate who consistently supports and defends the Constitution that they all swore to uphold.

I'm with him for the duration because all the others are nothing more than lousy puppets for the owners of the Federal Reserve. For Ron, it's always been about public service and the greater good based upon the ideals set forth by our founding Fathers. For all the others, it's clear that they are willing to promote the shady interests (at best) of the owners of the Federal Reserve and continue to destroy America simply for their fame and fortune.

There are many things we can do about this. One: is to educate ourselves further and educate others along the way. Two: is to become an insider (even if only on the local level) and actively "take over" the political party of our choice in our little corner of the woods. This includes running for Precinct Chair(man) and working with your local political party to learn Politics 101 and beyond, becoming a delegate to conventions (precinct, county, district, state, national), campaigning for local candidates, recruiting candidates, writing your party platform, working with elected officials (or against depending on their position) and running for public office someday.

During the American War for Independence, there were three groups of people among the colonists. What's interesting is that these three groups of colonists were equal in size. One-third of the population each. The first group supported the Crown and the King. The second group were revolutionaries/traitors who supported independence. I am in that second group today just as my blood was in that second group then. I will fight, and I may die, for the cause but I wouldn't have it any other way.

What was the third group? They were the fence sitters. They would say anything to either group and do essentially nothing. This third group really matters very little for they are merely followers only. They will follow whoever wins the battle.

The real question here is where do you stand? And what will you stand for? America is in desperate need of leadership. Someone has to look out for those 100 million Americans who will never do anything but follow and the 100 million supporters you have should you actually be the leader you could be.

I will reference these remarks with some resources that you may find invaluable. If you find this helpful consider copying it and sending it to your fellow Americans. And should you decide to become a revolutionary traitor as I am perhaps we'll meet on the battleground in the future. On the same side that is.

You have a good grasp on the situation Kayla. And this behavior isn't just in one party but both major parties. I think what's happened over the years is our countries lack of seeing the danger signs of big government and how they have turned from serving the people to self serving. Not enough of us vote. We have let this monster grow because we didn't want to be bothered. The government was meant to have a strong military and do our biding period. Now it practically runs every facet of our lives and has become too many people's daddy. What can the government do for me? That mind set scares the heck out of me. But it's our fault. A large bureaucracy will never be able to run things like education as well as if we did it on a local level. They give great speeches have great intentions. But the money never seems to get to where it needs to be. If this government were to be in charge of the sahara desert it would run out of sand in 5 years. It is truley a case of the tail wagging the dog. How can we change it? By a miricle wake up I guess. But I won't hold my breath. But still with all of our faults we are still the best and freeest country on earth. But we sure need a lot of work because I know we could be much better.

Unfortunately it takes lots of money to run for office, and the average working person just can't afford the expenses of a typical campaign. So we are left with only rich people who can run for public office. It would seem that our system has become a sort of pay-to-play system of aristocracy. The other problem is the culture of corruption in Washington D.C., where lobbying groups give gifts and/or favors to politicians to vote a certain way.
The problem seems to have started when we the people put too much trust and power in the hands of those in charge of our government. If we give unlimited power over our entire lives to the government in exchange for promises of fixing social problems and/or the promise of a utopia on earth, we will soon find ourselves as slaves of a tyranical government and wonder where our freedom went.

One congressman or one president can't do much without the support of his/her party. You need to compare each party's agenda and vote for the party that you agree with. Money buys politicians so you must choose not based on the number of TV ads but the candidates record or their background.

because people believe in first impressions, and the politicians only have to smile until the day they get into office.

too many people with bad memories vote for the things that will help them. you will find that for each thing you like in a political party there may be one thing you dont. like no guns is good, but welfare increase is bad etc.

people end up voting not for the person, but for what they can get out of it.

Politicians only care about getting re-elected. Other than that, they will say or do anything that will get them re-elected.

The only problem is that normal people like you and me don't have the money to run a campaign to get elected, so we will never truly be represented.

You are SOOOOO right on target. Politicians will say anything to get elected and then do whatever they want to do. I would like to see a law where politicians are OBLIGATED to adhere to campaign promises unless under extreme, unforeseen circumstances.

AND WHY DO AMERICANS TOLERATE THIS?

Take a look at you congressional retirement plans. ONE day in office gets you about $80,000 for life..............And they voted that for themselves.

WE NEED ANOTHER "BOSTON TEA PARTY".

Your concept is the way it is supposed to be but that don't happen in real life sad but politicians have there own narrow minded agenda just looking out for them selves.

If you look up the word Politics you will find it's a Greek word------Poli meaning many-----tics meaning blood suckers. Our government in America is run by lobbyists and big business.
Take a look at our Vice President he should be ashamed of himself. So should a lot of others in office.

Do you let your representatives know what you expect of them? Maybe they get to Washington, and the only people they hear from are lobbyists from their State, who do not have the same desires as you. You need to communicate with them. Give it a try.
