In the U.S. an estimated 1, 711,000 persons were added to the population in 2005. A 5.8 per 1,000 rate of increase down from 5.9 in 2004. An estimated 4,143,000 births to 2, 432,000 deaths. As for the entire planet, I dont have percise details, but the world population has increased by billions just during the 20th century so the answer is yes!

Birth Rate: This is the ultimate determinant. In a developed nation the average woman must bear 2.1 children in order to maintain a level population
Death Rate: In recent years fewer people have died than have been born in most countries because the average age of life expectancy has been extended. Everyone will die, of course, but for now this has resulted in increases in population. and yes, nature has a way of finding an equilibrium, but we humans are conflicting nature with medicines, machines, toxins and the rest of our clutter. we are becoming anti-nature and we no longer want to die when its time.
