Yes, it is legal. At first the owner may act like he has a new toy and review the tapes daily. If he has Hitler tendencies, that will be apparent as he starts micromanaging his business. In most cases, owners get tired of wading through miles and miles of tapes and ultimately stop reviewing them. What usually happens is that the tapes are only used if something significant happens on a particular date and at a particular time. Then the company can see what happened by viewing the appropriate tape. In places where I have worked with cameras spying, I never sweat it. Nobody looks at the tapes unless there is a compelling reason.
So for the most part, it is like they are not even there.

I think that depends if your boss owns the work premesis. If he does then anyone who he wants can watch the cctv footage. If he is just a manager for a company (ie you work at a tesco store or something) then no, that's not allowed. Am no expert but I think that's about the size of it...it will also depend where you are from of course and your countries own laws

Yes it is. An employer uses you to do a task that he is paying you for. If you don't do the task then he is paying you needlessly He can put in whatever checks he wants. If you don't like it you have the option to leave. The higher up you go in employment the more you get checked up on and the Managing Director, at the top, has loads of management figures hanging over his head and it no wonder that in UK the average term for a Chief Executive is two years. Get used to it

Yes. Unfortunately employers can install cameras in virtually every part of the work environment. The ONLY place where they are not allowed ot put camers in MOST states is in the rest rooms. Privacy issues and all that. But in any other area of thoffice space they can put cameras anywehre and as many as they can get in.

Yes 100% Legal but, you have to be formally told that there is CCTV recording and the purpose of the recording, he also has to register the system with the data protection act. Signs must also be visible for all staff and visitors.

Audio can also be recorded but again you must be told.

Yes of course, he obviously feels that he is protecting interests, possibly yours as well.
If you had an accident at work it would show who's wrong!
I must confess I do not like big brother, but had cameras been where I was once then it would have proved me right, if you are OK then what have you to fear and it may help a case for a pay rise.

yes i believe that this is legal as long as the video footage is kept locked away and is stored securely, however the employer should have spoken to and listened to the employees concerns and dealt with them before installing the CCTV system.

100% legal to use CCTV anywher within a business or your own home. thogh warnings are supposed to be shown, and installing cctv in changing rooms and restrooms is not legal.

so either put up with it. or find a better job elsewhere.

Not only is it completely legal (If you are doing nothing wrong there is nothing to worry about), they can also monitor your computer at work to make sure that you are not using it for personal use when you are supposed to be working. I used to work in a casino so I have no problems with having cameras on me while working.

Im pretty sure this is illegal unless the either tell you or put up a notice saying CCTV in operation.

My boss has recently done this and has done neither, and was sitting watching someone on it.
