Don't listen to only the ipod lovers. I got a black Zune, and I think it's a bit better than my old black ipod. Here are some reasons why:
1.bigger screen
2.scratch-resistant, durable
3.feels nice in the palm of your hand, really
4.has a nice UI design (way better than ipod)
5.has wi-fi feature so you can send songs & pics to other Zunes
6.has built-in FM tuner
7.you can change the background pic for the whole menu system
8.Zune software has a subscription feature so you can download a lot for 1 price
9.can sync with the Xbox 360
10.you can view videos and some pics in landscape mode (on it’s side) so you just turn it on it’s left side (makes it great for watching videos)
11.you can get 14 day free-trial for Zune Marketplace
12.is something new and has latest technology
Overall, I think Zune's benefits are better than it's disadvantages. Ipods are good and all, but they aren't perfect either. I suggest you at least look at a Zune, in a music display and try it.

iPod is currently better, by a long, long way

- There is no 80gb Zune
- An 80 gb iPod is smaller than a 30gb Zune
- iPods are pretty reliable as they have been refined over five generations of the product. Zune is in its first generation and while the hardware seems stable, there have been many complaints on the internet about the Zune software crashing, the fact the software asks you for lots of user account details etc
- More songs are available on iTunes Store than on the Zune Marketplace. Zune Marketplace also has no video content available
- The supposed advantage of Zunes is that you can share music with another Zune user. However, this only works if you are in a wifi hotspot, the song only lasts for three days or three plays, and only 58% songs bought from the Zune Marketplace has a license to do this, and you'd be lucky to find another Zune user within 30 metres in the current time when there are probably less than 200,000 Zune users in the whole world.

i have an ipod, but truth be told, its just to look cool. the Ipod looks good and is intuitive and easy to use, but its extremely fragile, the battery is prone to being broken( and you cant put in a new battery yourself, you have to send it back to them for that.) and it has no voice recorder, no fm receiver and you have to use itunes to sync and it plays limited formats of video.

On the other hand, zune isn't as sexy as the ipod, but it has a fm tuner and voice recorder, the screen is huge, and you have wifi capabilities(although theyre pretty much a joke now, with up dates microsof can MAKE this something really cool). its sturdier and less fragile than the ipod. hardware wise, this is a ipod killer, but the software that goes with it just sucks monkey balls. it can take up to five hrs to setup completely, and it syncs up everything on your computer, its slow and clumsy. I almost cried then i just returned it.

The best bang for your buc right now is the Creative Zen Vision M or its widescreen cousin, the Zen vision W. the zen vision M has an intuitive navigation system, Fm Tuner, Voice recorder, Glorious high definition screen, and you can get a cable that allows for playback on your tv. it plays every kind of video format out there, and is the same price as the ipod and zune. it comes in 30, 60 and 80 g models and you can purchase additional batteries. Best of all, no need to download additional software it uses the media player already installed on your computer( real, windows media). the W is the same but with an amazing 4 inch widescreen. i have both. people are just now catching up to the thing and the widescreen one is no impossible to get a hold of.

anyways good luck and i hope you enjoy your new gizmo.

i might propose which you get the 80GB Zune. It seems large, can postpone to 20,000 songs, hassle-free navigation, scratch resistant show, and you are able to no longer forget approximately the on the spot sync and the top rate in ear headphones featuring it somewhat of the cheap ones you get once you purchase an iPod. An 80GB iPod classic is large, yet i like the recent Zune 80GB extra advantageous. additionally, the 160GB iPod classic is kinda vast too, so... in case you like donning a brick on your pocket, get that.
