get your lpn while you wait to get in the rn program lpn programs r only 11 months and you can make more as an lpn in geriatrics and through supplemental staffing agencies than rn's working in hospitals. as an lpn i made between 23- 30/hr. where i live at and the hours, flexibility, recognition, and benefits can't be beat and there are so many areas of nursing your choices are endless.

Nursing school is *highly* competitive. Nurses make very good money and will continue to get paid well in the future because we are heading toward a HUGE shortage. The average age of nurse practitioners right now is 46 which means that in the next 15-20 years, we will be losing a very large percentage of the current workforce.

The best part about nursing is that there are so many different specialties-- you can "change careers" several times within the field throughout your lifetime. It's hard work and pretty stressful, but if you're worried about job security and good pay, you're all set. The best thing you can do for yourself is to take some community college classes in anatomy, etc and keep up your study skills while waiting to get into nursing school.

hey ya, I'm an Australian RN, it is a great job, but it's more of a vocation than a career, you really have to care about the welfare, outcomes, and practice of medicine, and you have to be able to put up with a lot of crap. It's a highly emotional job, and professional distance is one of the hardest lessons to learn.

With regards to pay, it depends on what area you work in. In Australia, mental health nurses (psych) and midwifery are the better paid as you have to do more study to be registered as a psych or mid nurse.

Good Luck, I started nursing when I was 26 and it the best thing I have ever done.

Come up a few hours north. De Anza Jr college has a two year program that's inexpensive. My sister went and can choose where she works making 40-60K per year depending on where she goes.

are u trying to get into a 2 year ASN degree... Then why not enter the BSN degree.. u would be done with the BSN before getting into the ASN.. Or u can go for 18 months, become an LPN and transition in and finish the other year.. (ASN)..
