"Whenever asked, director Tarantino has replied that there is no explanation for the case's contents: it is simply a MacGuffin. Originally, the case was to contain the diamonds stolen in Reservoir Dogs, but this was seen as too mundane. For filming purposes, the briefcase contained an orange light bulb, silver foil, and a battery. Despite Tarantino's explanation, many theories have been proposed for the contents of the briefcase, for instance that it contains Marsellus' soul."

Gold and /or diamonds, I guess.... from the glow! I have read Tarantino said that there is no explanation to what is in the briefcase it was written into the script as a Mcguffin, a plot device. Originally the plot was written with the briefcase full of diamonds but Tarantino decided the contents would never be see and each person could come to their own conclusions as to what was in the case. Apparently someone put the orange bulb in the suitcase and people took the light for a supernatural thing.

oooooooooh good Question.
They never said (ever) what it was.
So it was anything you can dream up. If you imagine something in your mind.. something worth dying and killing for.. something maybe even not worth dying and killing for... it is one thing for sure... an object. And so many peoples lives are effected by this "object".
It glows so my family always thinks it is gold.. lol. But they talk alot about drugs.. it could be that. Money is a best guess.. maybe all in million dollar bills... lol.
That is the thing with Quentin... he plays with your head.
He gets you to Think about things like that.
In Kill Bill you never know the brides name is Beatrix until the end of ep 2 because her name is a dirty word to the people who tried to kill her and Quentin BLEEPS it out everytime someone says it. It shows you just how they feel about her and how degraded she feels.

Jules...not Jewels. I've always interpreted it as the American Dream. Some have interpreted it as Marcelus Wallace's soul. Some think gold. It's left to the viewer to decide and debate the issue.

They never show what's in the briefcase [just a gold light that comes from it] therefore no one knows. You just have to go with it and use your imagination.
