It is only a waste of time, if you just sit and wait and don't do anything. You need to be in motion for hopes and dreams to come true.

It is not a waste of time, it kind of give you an agenda. You must put something in action to realize what you hope for.

EXAMPLE: Gee, I hope I get the new position at work.
What have you done within your control to make this possible? If you are rude, grumpy, and don't apply yourself to the fullest, chances are you won't.

If you give every project your all, and are a pleasant co-worker and willing to help others, you stand a greater chance. Dress for success too. That doesn't mean to buy expensive suits, but dress for the occasion. Don't wear cut offs and t shirts to the office for example. How we project ourselves determines to a great degree how far we can go. This doesn't mean be a suck up however.

In closing, hope is great, but you gotta put some legs on it to help it happen.

Let me tell you a secret. All the people of this planet are hopeless. They have given up on the very thought of hope itself. Don't listen to these people who are only typing silly thoughts just to get yahoo points. They too have given up hope. That is why they process their answers through without editing them. So many truly do not care, on an unconscious level. Yes to even hope that the world is still saveable is... A waste of time. That is why I will do what is necessary in this world to give it a lashing. Since the world doesn't know who I am

If someone lost a child, and there are chances that the child is still alive, is hoping for her/him to be alive by searching a waste of time?

If someone had three weeks to live, and in that time the person had chances to find a cure so that he/she wouldn't have to die, would searching for a cure by hoping that it exist a waste of time?

Many times hope is required for us to make, or not make, certain decisions incase what we're hoping for turns out to be true. For example, you wait at a sports game hoping your team will win. If you had no hope, then obviously you wouldn't wait, and there would go your money.

No and Yes.

If you don't dream, you will not have any motivation to live.

I hope I can do this. or I hope this happens. You want to live to see whether it happens or not.

I hope I get best answer on this one. I want to comeback and check if i did or not.

Yes, in certain situation because if you are thinking I hope I win a lottery, then you actually have to buy the ticket (but still the hope is there). or if you want to ask someone out, you can't just hope that some day they will come to you, you have to ask them sometimes.

Not at all. Hope is the last thing in Pandora's box to keep us humans sane. Its all we have when we are in despair and feel all is lost. hope is what gets us through. So no, hope is not a waste of time.

Well i don't quite agree with some of the people.Hope doesn't necessarily mean sitting there and doing nothing but waiting for sumthing good to happen. It depends, some people need hope to keep motivated. So that they can reach their goal.Hope can also keep u alive through difficult times.Life without hope isn't life.

It isn't if it gives the person some relief.
As far as results in what a person is hoping for it does little but it can give the person time to adjust if failure is in the cards.
The let down would be lessened.

Hope does serve a small but important purpose. It makes us feel stronger.
