Hi!
I use Dr. borwn's nipples and my baby is on level 1...he is 4 months old...I was going to switch him to level 2. I do see that the milk doesnt flow evenly from the nipple and sometimes doesnt even come out....I am wondering if the nipples are worn out? The baby isnt even having much milk these days and I am wiondering if it's the nipples or the formula that I recently switched? Any clues? Should the milk be falling evenly in drops? How often should we replace nipples in general? And what are the usual signs of nipples being worn out?

Is it powdered formula? If so, that may be clogging the nipples. Try taking a sterilized pin to the end of it to open them up more. Nipples are worn out when they get thin, or don't have a proper seal for whatever stage they are. Or when baby gets some teeth and chews through them. How can you tell how the milk flows when it should only be coming out when baby is actually eating? Lol, I know my bottles will spray if they are too hot or if I shook them too hard and pressure builds up, but that's not how they actually flow. With stage one nipples, they make the baby work a little harder because newborns breath exclusively through the nose and don't always have breathing and eating in sync. I'd check w/ the doctor about switching to level two, just to make sure it's age appropriate. Even call the office and ask a nurse. I know people that have used the same nipples until baby chewed through them, but if you want to replace just to be sure, I'd think that was fine. Have a good night, and good luck!

NO...they aren't worn out. When you put cereal in the bottle, the hole isn't big enough. I just put one of the nipples through the disposal by accident, and it is still working fine! That is a good brand.

They actually make level 2 and 3 nipples. 3 is the only one that works with cereal. It is perfect, and doesn't come out too fast. i bought mine at walmart grocery.

You can also buy other nipples from other brands...I have used gerber nipples in my dr brown bottles, but the fast gerber nipples actually let way too much milk out.
