Because they can cheer for their favorite team and see the players get hit in the game with tackles and see if their favorite team wins the game. It is just a guy thing to do as they can drink beer and have some good food along with watching the football game.

its awesome! but seriously, it is because it is a fast paced high intensity sport that anyone can play and everyone can understand if they try. the drama in professional football is built up a lot more than say basketball or baseball because it is only played once a week. the other sports can be played multiple times per week. its just really intense and physical mainly though.

Football (soccer) right? it's so exciting, intense, a heart stopper. Basicly it's #1. It rules the world. It's like a little battle ground.
The excitement is intense! once you start liking it, thats it, it's for life. Especially Goals from your team! When it's the opposite team it debastating it hurts, but yet you still admire their goal.

First, its not just guys, but I guess I know what you mean. there are 3 reasons:
1. players get rewarded for beating each other up
2. It gives them power, every fan contributes to the outcome of the game. (lucky jerseys and smelly socks included)
3. it's an excuse to drink beer and yell loudly
