Right now Senate Republicans are holding out for 8 billion dollars in tax breaks for small businesses before they approve the $7.25 minimum wage bill approved by the House. The original bill fell short by 6 votes in the Senate ( 60 needed to approve it). The House is expected to amend the bill to give the Republicans what they want, then the minimum wage bill will be passed.

The minimum wage should be eliminated altogether. It is counterproductive, unfair and inflationary. It is just a tax on business and it affects small business the hardest.
If you personally have a gripe with your wage, it is your responsibility to do something about it. If you cannot bring yourself to make any changes, then it must not really be that bad.
The minimum wage robs people of their incentive just like a handout does. The more adverse your predicament, the stronger your will to improve it. Why would you deny good people that motivation, its like killing their spirit.
Compassion takes many forms, not just the simplest form.
RE: Congress....
We should get to control their wage with a vote every six months.

It will take them having to live at that wage for a year and still try to maintain a family. It will not happen. They do not seem to realize that in a capitalist economy, inflation drives up the cost of living. If people are still makingthe same amoutn they were ten years, then they have less buying power. That means that the businesses have less patrons and less revenue.
The amount of revenue lost due to people having low incomes is far greater than the amount of revenue lost due to having to pay the workers more.

An acquaintance of mine has a few employees that make $6.00 an hour. He says that if he has to raise their wages he will not be able to give a raise the wages those who make 9.00 and 10.00 and who are due to a raise based on merit. He says those will have to wait one more year to get their raise.

They've never had to live on $5.50 an hour, they've never been a single mother raising children without child support, they've never been a person with a disability who is unable to get higher education, they've never tried to put themselves (and their family) through higher education, they have no idea what it's like in the REAL WORLD and why it is absurd to pay people $5.50 an hour (and they're usually undesirable jobs, too) and they've never known what it's like to not have health insurance, either!
