In some countries they help drowning sailors like dolphins, but countries like Japan, says that they sing and lure sailors into the dark sea to meet their deaths...
I always saw how good mermaids were, I've seen alot of good movies like The Little Mermaid. If you want to see how evil they are in japan, watch "The Mermaid's Forest" in youtube.com
Says they're flesh makes you immortal if you are considered worthy, if not, it will be quite the opposite. But the show isn't what you expect... creepy, but it's pretty good, gives me a glimpse of the mermaid tales in Japan. Hope this helps = )

In mythology, mermaids had a torso of a fair maiden but had a fish tail instead of legs. Some paintings depict the scales of the fish tale beginning at the mermaid's hips, while some mermaids are depicted with looking complete female anatomy until where her legs begin, her thighs are fused together in a fish tail.
Uh oh.. I'm a little confused now, between mermaids and sirens. But I think mermaids sang too to lure sailors and other men to them into the water, where the mermaid(s) would drown the man she had lured. I guess that makes her evil.

There are many different types of mermaids. Almost every culture in the world has some type of myth/legend about a mermaid/merman. Some are benign and some, while not exactly "evil," are dangerous.

Mermaids are either good or evil. Just like humans, there are some good humans and there are some evil humans...
Mermaids may tend to be hostile to those who tread onto their territory... so I guess you may call that evil... but it's just a protective instict...

well to tell you the truth i searched for them a lot i have been to a remote area near Pakistan and india sea border they say that have seen such creatures and they often swim near their ships but i have waited for 6 months but i have seen nothing but i havent lose hope .....but they say they are friendly

Evil. Sailors were mezmorized by them and jumped into the sea to drown.

mermaids are believed to be evil here in philippines...
but mermen are fishermen's friends.
