The baby's soft spot is so the baby can pass smoothly through the birth canal. It will collapse alittle during vaginal delivery. The soft spot will go away as the baby gets older. If the baby falls it can be hurt. Hope this helped!

It's never good to drop a baby, if that should occur you should take the child to the doctors just to be on the safe side. As for this mold comment. The soft spot is the area of the skull that gives way during delivery. It does so for easier passage through the birth canal. The skull will eventually fuse all pieses together but in the mean time just be causious of this area. Check out www.webmd.com for more info on this topic and other health related topics.

Yes, damage can happen if a baby falls but contrary to what everyone else posted here, the soft spot isn't all that fragile. It's pretty thick and is sturdy (just dont try to smash something through the soft spot!) and is meant to protect the skull (or lack of it) when the baby falls.

Its called the fontanel, and it is because the two sides of the skull haven't yet come together and fused.
Any time a baby that young falls there could be serious injury to the head, so if a fall has occurred the baby should be seen by the doctor.

Don't worry. the soft spot in the top of their head is like playdoh. You still have time to mold the shape of your baby's head before it gets too old

It's stronger than what it looks. If there is anything wrong the main sign are if the soft spot is bulging that means there might be too much pressure in the head.

If a baby falls many things could happen. Brain hemmorage is one thing. If your baby fell or you dropped it, please take it to the hospital and have a doctor check her out.
