The kids are 10-11&12. Am I spending too much? I won't say a figure so I won't sway your answers. We eat dinner every night at home. Breakfast and sack lunches.

In my family there is my wife and myself, three children, 12, 6, and 3 years old. we spend probably more than 500 dollars a month on groceries. We have breakfast and dinner at home and the kids and myself bring our lunches from home. We eat out 2 or 3 times a month. We also live in northern California so things are a little bit more around here. I hope this helps.

I have wondered the same thing because I buy groceries first and will only partially pay bills, if needed. I have 3 boys 12, 10, and 7 and I would say that I average about 700 to 900 month. That includes things like bathroom, laundry, and cleaning products.

We eat very well, though, with lots of fresh fruits and meat, but I do buy store brands mostly. I also buy canned pasta and microwavable things for weekend lunches. So I splurge on some things but I'm frugal overall.

I shop mostly at Wal-Mart and Sam's but I hit the local shops for sale items. Here, Piggly Wiggly has the best meat prices.

This is from my home model and I spend about $ 800 to $1000 per month for family of 5 if I cook dinner, and breakfast not for lunch. But if I only cook dinner then I have to add another $300 per month. However, I love good food and enjoy eating out. I try to do both so I would say $1000 to $1300 Per month. By the way, I choose buying good quality of meat, fruits vegetables and etc.I live in Silicon Valley so the cost of living higher than other part of the country.Thank you for asking this question and Happy New You 2007.

Just really depends on what you buy. If you buy the generic brands that dont cost so much but still taste the same, Id say at least $200 per week, but if you go all out and buy the name brands, you'd might wanna double your price. My family is a family of 4, but thats including 2 babies still in diapers and one on formula so I spend about $200 to $300 per week. Just depends mainly on what I need in particular. Do you buy the same thing over and over? Or do you just get the things you run out of by writing it on a list everytime the box or carton gets empty? Thats is a sole factor on it as well. Good luck to you.

$200 x 4 weeks in a month = $800 (generic)
$400 x 4 weeks in a month = $1600 (name brand)

Me- $300 x 4 weeks in a month = $1200 (including diapers $17 x2, and formula which cost about $23 a can)

Oh lord, I love the answer 100 a month...that is a riot...more like 500 a month!!!! I was a family of 5 till the kids all got grown....I spend about 75-125 a week just on me and the hubby, sometimes less sometimes more, if I need detergent, TP, all that non edible stuff...It is expensive to eat NON crap food!!!! (he takes his lunch to work, $$$ it all adds up) and I could spend more if I really wanted to have ALL the staples and condiments to eat healthier all the time, food is EXPENSIVE!!!!

Okay, I'm a family of 5 as well. We spend about $500 a month on food, but that includes all our cleaning supplies and shampoo and what not. We shop weekly. About $125.00 a week.

Edited: My kids are ages 16, 11, and 7. We shop at walmart super center.
