You got the newest Core 2 Duo, 64 bit. I would add a Sony DRU-830A 18x DVD, +/- rw, with RAM. In the US they have a rebate and I do not know about rebates for you. But on the internet it is about half as cheap as the store price.
You got to get the 4Gb of memory. Better in the long run. Level 2 cache I presume.
Disagree on the hard drive setup. But matter of opinion. Check the URL and from there you can decide on your HDD.
I presume that you will be using two video cards.
I googled the monitor and like mine has the word processing mode. That is you can tip it longways. Great for reading magazines. But the monitor can handle the card.
Now, if you go to pcworld.com. if you search they have a section on building your own computer, test results, and a top 5 and 10 list of computer stuff they test out. So maybe your ASUS game card is superseded. You did not mention if you were buying this at a store, custom made, or doing it yourself. Either way pcworld can get the facts for you. For me, you need to ship it to me so I can test it out for you. I guarantee to give you my opinion, oh say, maybe two years. lol
Rating 9 as I do not see anything on cooling here.
Below URLs take you directly to the source. I do this as I learn stuff along the way too. Since some of us do not work here in the US, but play on the computer all day. lol

To answer your questions in order:
1. I would consider this a decent setup for gaming, yes. Your buying a DX10 card which is not only powerful but ready for tomorrows next gen games.
2. No you are paying $1000 too much if you bought the parts from a competive source. Im qouting this in Canadian CDN dollars (which is identical in coversion).
Intel Core 2 Duo E6400 Processor $273
Intel D975XBX2 Motherboard (way better) $252
BFG Technologies 8800 GTS Video Card (much cheaper) $394
Corsair XMS2 2GB PC2-6400 DDR2 Memory Kit (faster) $330
Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 ST3320620AS 320GB Hard Drive (bigger, faster) $107
Case and 650watt Gaming PSU = $110
Total so far = $1394
Which leaves you $1194 for the monitor.
All the picks I made were premium parts I just grabbed from www.pricegrabber.ca and not from shopping around. So you are getting fairly ripped off here. Hope this gives you some perspective on you future purchase.

Its a good computer.
The price is OK.
I would rate it 8 out of 10.
You need to upgrade the Hard Drive. At least 500 gigs.
For accesories, I would suggest
Logitech, as they are the best around
hope this helped.

I think that's fantastic. Although do you really need a 680i? What's wrong with the 975X chipset?
