The U.S. and India weren't great allies during the Cold War, which ended only some 16 years ago. Only recently has the U.S. started making a greater alliance between the two nations. This is partly because it's wise to be allies with nations with the potential to become a superpower, and because the U.S. and the West would like a democratic nation in that area to try to balance Communist China's growing power.
So yes, the U.S. is allying itself with India.

India has historically been a difficult ally for the US. This goes back to the Cold War, when the she tried for years to play off different Communist nations against the US. We have, in general, a remarkable lack of sympathy for your endless scrapping with Pakistan. The conflict has impoverished two otherwise capable and rational nations. Grow up and settle it, already.

United States definitely messed up by not going to India for help. Our alliance with Pakistan bit us in the ***, and they never were truely commited to helping us. Pakistan is not to be trusted. As I said again, we definitely messed up by going for the muslim neighbor.

what type of agreement are you talking about? i mean chances are if the US makes an agreement it has to be something that is mutually beneficial, so the US would have to get something out of it and so would India. for most agreements the US makes there are tons of underlying reasons for making it....Oil for example...
