I believe that one of the best things about living in a country like this one is that there is no ONE political party that has a strong control of the government. this country is a it is; Democratic.
I believe the fact that both parties don't regularly see eye-to-eye is a good thing, sort of like the way the government is setup with the checks and balances.
if the government ever became too unipartison i think would mark the end of a democratic nation and proceed to an Oligarchy don't you think...
hope this helps...

Could anyone of you please explain the difference between plain vanilla and French vanilla? I'm French, never heard of something like that? For us in France, your system with two big parties seems really odd, here, even for the extreme left, we must have at least 3 parties: Ligue communiste révolutionnaire Parti communiste and the third one, I can't recall. Ar our last elections, we thought a big party of the center (recently named Parti Démocrate by François Bayrou) has made enough votes in the first tour to have consistent weight on the second, but Sarkozy (you know, our little nervous president, recently divorced?) put so much pressure on the politicians that poor Bayrou is almost alone in his partie now. Oh yes, we have many parties, but in the end, what's the difference ? big party at the right side of the check (UMP with Sarkozy) and the left is represented by the parti socialist who is no longer socialist and very much divided now... What's in for the Frenchies? You have to work more and get paid less, when you have the chance to have a job. I, personnally have two masters and no hope to find a job anytime soon. France is no more a paradise than any other "rich" countries, it's always paradise for a happy few.

I think the split between the two parties should be the least of our worries. The whole country is divided and the politicians are worried about the parties? Joke....
Years ago when the woman's movement was in full swing husbands and wives were becoming alienated from one another. Today with the lack of responsibility in the home and schools and permissiveness, children have become alienated from their parents and vice versa.
Family is no more....
In truth, the "illegal" immigration problem is creating a division between all races, just as affirmative action has perpetuated animosity among the races.
There might even be a revolution here in this country....who knows?

The differences between the two main political parties are what has made America the greatest country in the world to live in. With few exceptions, these differences have been resolved by open communication by all parties and eventually by compromise that works for the common good. How can we hope for two political parties to agree when no two people usually agree on everything?

No Democrat wants the USA to lose anything!
The Republicans need to understand that not everyone is wealthy.
Most Americans need to realize that Republican and Democrat officials for the most part are becoming more alike.
Most reside somewhere in the middle of a subject.
Not on the far right or left.

That is up to the American people. If the American people continue to support unfair, unwise, dishonest and ineffective government actions like the War in Iraq or Tax Cuts for the rich, then the Democrats will have no choice but to fight the likes on Karl Rove, Lee Atwater and Tom Delay, George W. Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld and finally political power at any cost.
If the American people continue to fall for this group of opportunists and war mongers, then we will have perpetual in fighting.
However, the American people have already caught up with the Republicans. So our Country is going to be OK. We just have to undo what Bush and his friends have done.

This isn't new. These parties have hated each other since the Civil War. It's actually tamer now than it was in the old days.

I would hope that a 3rd party would emerge from all of this. As a veteran, it's very frustrating to think I put my life in danger so our country could turn into this.
Oh well...love it or leave it, and God bless America.

I think you need to know this. There has always been animosity between the political parties. This is nothing new. Some years it is worse than others. We will survive this time as we have in the past.
