No, this country has been on the wrong path since the late 70's. It's been good for the rich, but has put the middle class and national indebtedness at an unhealthy level that is a big threat to stability in this country and globally. If this country had worked with the world to implement changes after Desert Storm we would not be isolated and in the mess we are in today.
The cities are less safe and the prisons are full,
and we need to be repairing our infrastructure; not stuck in a religious civil war on the other side of the globe.
I'm registered as a democrat but I'm not happy with either party at the national level.

Speaking from the changes I have seen in the overall social structure of the USA, emphatically, no.
I am specifically correlating this to:
moral values
ethics
murder
rape
drugs
alcohol
robbery
theft by swindle
sexual abuse
divorces
children murdering children
Our citizens are afraid of each other, communicate directly and/or interpersonally less, we lock our doors now out of fear for our personal safety, people are killed every day for their material goods so that the robbers can buy drugs.
I find it hard to see how this is or would be, an improvement on the peaceful quiet lives we lead in the 50s and 60s. I still love America every bit as much but its always sad to see something you love, decay.

If I could go back to the 1950's, I would except for segregation etc. But it does seem that life was more simple then. Marriages stayed together more often then not, kids could walk down to the store by themselves, a gang fight was a group of bullies fist fighting, kids stayed in school, neighbors were friendly to each other etc. Now it seems divorce is rampant, kids are vanishing or being molested often, gangs commit drive-by shootings killing innocent children in some instances, dropping out of school is common, most people don't know the people two doors down. It's just sad, where did all the caring, kind people go?

One thing I do agree with that Jim Webb said in his Dem. response to the State of the Union address...
50 years ago CEO's made 20 times what a worker made and now its 400 times.. now I dont know if those are totally accurate numbers... But there is some truth to it.
Im not for taking away what people earn by taxing them to death..
but the USA needs to cut the fat.. and that fat is in the form of ridiculous salaries and expense accounts of politicians.. of corporate executives and the like.
And im neither a democrat nor a republican. I vote issues, have never registered with a party.

I think technologically, yes we are far better off than we were 50 years ago. But as far as morals and values go, we have slid down a slippery slope. I don't think it matters whether you are a Republican or Democrat in terms of this question.

There is no easy answer to that question, in alot of ways we are much better off today (ie. civil rights). However, in some ways it was better then, lets face it as a parent you are always worried about your child playing outside it seems that there is a child kidnapping every other week. Given the choice to chose one or the other I'd stick with today, though. By the way I'm a Republican.

Yes. Because fifty years ago more people did not have the income they do today. We all live a comfy life and too much political turmoil back then too. I am neither party and pick from each one the lesser of two evils. Although I tend to vote more right.
