What do you think about Film,Television, Book and Video Game censorship?

I just wanted to know what people thought about government censorship of film/tv/games.

I don't mean the application of ratings; rather when, for example, a film is banned from being shown because it is deemed too innappropriate. Or games for inciting violence. Do you believe that these mediums do insight violence?

Do you think that it is the parents responsisbility or the governments to monitor people's viewing habits?

Do you think the internet should be censored for various things such as political and religious extremism?

What about books? Do you think certain works of literature should be banned for their content? Do you believe schools/governments should be able to ban certain works?

I'm totally open to everyone's opinion, this isn't for an essay or anything like that, just curiosity!

I'm agin it. All of it. Even when I'm appalled by some things. I believe in the freedoms guaranteed by the Constitution, even when it would make sense to ban, object or burn dangerous, morally dubious material like religions, and holocaust denyers, KKK rallies, paranoids of all stripes, rap music, and Thomas Kincaid pictures. I am against all those thing and more besides. However it is nobodies business to censor it. It is generally the Parents responsibility control the things that their children experience. It is my opinion that absolute veto power even in that sacred influence may be overexercised to the child's detriment. While schools might be able to restrict access to certain things, they may never effectively ban an idea. there simply to many places to find it. Governments may censor nothing that cannot be proved to be harmful to national security interest. Even that can be the scoundrels shield. It is the Governments business to represent our commerce abroad, to secure our national honour and defense, collect and disburse our taxes, deal justly and compassionately with it citizens, succor the poor, protect the constitution and deliver the mail.
I do believe that much Internet content incites violence by making it commonplace and acceptance of ugly behavior and assault becomes the shield of the ego. I worry much more about violence in media than I do about sexual content of any sort. Censorship is wrong headed and destructive. My spelling and typing are collapsing, time to quit. Good night.

Censorship in any form and in any way is wrong, has always been wrong and will always be wrong. Essentially what they are doing by censoring these things is they are saying that 'WE THE PEOPLE..." are not capable of deciding for ourselves what material we want to watch, hear, see, read or play. It is an insult to the intelligence of EVERY person when some government agency says that a particular movie, game, book, song, or television show should not be seen by anyone. Also, when they place age restrictions they are saying that "WE THE PEOPLE" and not good enough parents to make those decisions so they will make them for us.

It is the parents responsibility to make decisions on what their children watch, read, listen to or play NOT some government agency that is trying to enforce the ideas and morality of who ever happens to be in charge at the time.

The Internet should NOT be censored. Again it is individual choice as to whether they want to view certain types of material.

Books likewise. All that banning books does is creates an underground market for them and makes it more likely that the people that they were trying to keep them from in the first place have easier access to them.
