That the PAST influences the FUTURE? If you have bad relationships in the past, then no relationships are formed because of DISTRUST. There is a lot of distrust, WHY? Because of the past. Why do whites realize that? If Native Americans were a thing of the past, WHY IS YOUR GOVERNMENT STILL PAYING THEM AND LETTING THEM GO TO COLLEGE FOR FREE? They are doing this because of its ROLE in the PAST. Why do you think Black History, Native American History, Asian History, Hispanic History, Womens' History and gay History Months WERE CREATED? Because of what happened in the past. Why is it that Osama bombing us? because of what BUSH did in the past. People don't forget about the past, FORGETTING THE PAST IS LIKE LIVING IN CANDYLAND!

My question is Why whites don't realize everything in the past influences EVERYONE'S ATTITUDES, LIFE, CULTURE, MUSIC, AND OUTLOOKS?
A simple question looking for a honest answer.

I hardly think lack of historical perspective is an exclusively white phenomenon.

I was under the impression that most people do realize the past is influencing the behavior of people in the present. I thought that was why a lot of people say things like, "It was the PAST, get over it!" Mostly I hear white people say that when they complain about things like Black History Month or any situation involving 'payback' to a particular race, etc... They seem to be well aware of past mistakes and they don't feel that we should keep having to pay people back because it's been 'long enough' already.

Personally, I don't have a problem with remembering the past because it's a reminder that we have to be careful not to repeat the same mistakes. I do think we have to draw a line at some point though because constant 'payback' creates some animosity when innocent people feel they are constantly being 'punished' for the mistakes of their ancestors.

I think you're over generalizing a bit, yes, some, but not all "white" don't realize it. But it's a fair statement to say the same of other races. Allot of people, some whites included have championed injustices to others, women, African Americans, etc, and some lost their lives as a result. There's an old saying, that those who don't learn by the past are doomed to repeat it. At the end of the day, we all bleed the same color, red, and believe in justice and equality for all. Believe it or not. Chow

Why does the ignorance of history affect only whites? Why don't blacks realize that the reason slavery got started was because the African kings wanted the European gold and valuables so they decided to start trading their people and people from different villages? Why don't Hispanics realize that the reason they are not American citizens is because the American government bought the land west of the Mississippi fairly?

Also, why don't you realize that if it wasn't for the "stupid white man" this country would not exist as it does today and you would not enjoy the freedoms you have?

Past acts are not going to be changed no matter how many people try to give money away or give superiority to those that think they were wronged. The only thing to do is to LEARN from the mistakes and not repeat them in the future. Trying to undo the past will simply drive people insane because it cannot be done.

And for those that chose to live in the past and not move on, it is a shame because your whole life is passing you by.

BTW, I am not "your" people. I am my own person who makes my own decisions and I did not do anything wrong to anyone.

And why do people like you still lump people all together in one category? Do ALL whites think the past is not important? No. This is what's referred to as a SWEEPING GENERALIZATION and is in no way good for race relations on any level. Thank you for posting such an opinionated comment that perpetuates ill feelings amongst races.

I for one am tired of "WHITES" getting all of the bum wrap. We're not all evil. We're not all prejudiced. Strides have been made toward racial harmony. Has the race been won? Not hardly - but people like you are contributing to the set backs.

And let me add, that all races on earth, at one time or another in history have been held in bondage. Right now, there are cambodian children held in captivity as sex slaves - that's going on RIGHT NOW, not a hundred years ago. Why aren't you asking what we can do about that?

Why should I let the past rule my future?....

Why should I hold people responsible for crimes they did not do ... why should I feel persecuted when I am not the one who was persecuted?....

those that were wronged is gone and those who done the wrong is gone.......I am not owed anything.....

wallow in the past..at perceived injustice to yourself...but remember you yourself did not receive the injustice...plant your feet on the ground ....make your own destiny......and don't blame others for failures that is not theirs...........

half Native American...........

I know you are trying to make a valid point, but the problem is you are grouping together a race and saying you all this and you all that...

This is a set back, not a forward motion

next time try by starting with...why don't some people realize...

The past does affect the future but it does not have too. We have a free will and do not need to give in to bad feelings about things which happened in the past. People who try to correct the wrongs of the past are insane, we can only try to not repeat them.

wow - thank you very much do you know that they are not of power in the USA any more no way no one will deal with a white man regardless of what they have to say or offer alright!
look at Mrs Hilary Clinton alright she has done something so distasteful to a race i have ever seen before and that is to become a top runner for president because white men here are incapable of doing anything useful and she shows this but you know i believe that black man gets in and the shift of power excels man this future is bad for the white man all over the world really and i feel sorry for what they must endure but you know they know this also and you know they are to arrogant to ever be humble and the world hate a white man!and that is a shame
id run to my Arab brother my Middle East Sister and Brothers before i would a white man for any thing! Ultimately and you know i pray that the ones of color don't endure any of the punishment they have coming to them for the single handed crimes the white man committed all over the world on every Continent on the face of the earth and to all people of color!

Your question might seem simple, but it is really difficult. History tends to repeat itself, for good or bad. There is no answer.
