What is a psychic vampire?

I was reading through the Q/A's and a few people asked about problems they were having being a "psychic vampire". I've never heard of this so I'm just curious.

I know there's several smart a** people that'll respond, however I'm here at myth/folklore asking a question because I'm curious, If you don’t believe in this type of stuff then why are you here at myth/folklore reading it?

I just want to thank each and every one of you that took the time to answer my question. I now know I have encountered a psychic vampire, and I called her my best friend for over 10 years. Only recently did we lose contact with each other and even though I wasn't sure why I didn't want to talk to her on a daily basis anymore I knew I just couldn't anymore. After some time without seeing or talking to her I literally felt like I could finally take a deep breath for the first time in 10 years.

At one time or another, most people have come across another person who seems to drain them of energy as they are around them. Some people have suddenly been awakened in the middle of the night, to find themselves totally paralyzed as a dark figure or mist seems to hold them down and drain their very life. The two above examples are that of psychic vampirism, a subject that only recently has begun to be studied by modern science in a serious and valid manner.

Whereas the blood sucking variety of vampires exist only in the imagination of many people (see The Legendary Vampire), psychic vampires are a very real thing. Throughout history there have been many cases of night attacks, where people have been paralyzed by something and had the life taken from them, creatures that the Greeks called lamai and were the Medieval European incubus/succubus. It is considered that such attacks are done as the psychic vampire either willingly or unwillingly finds random people to gather vital life energy from, either to sustain its own life or as an attack. The preferred way that most psychic vampires like to get their energy is through osmosis, usually centered at the solar plexus or the heart chakra, to instill fear and awaken the victim. After the vampire takes enough energy, it generally, flies away and the victim falls back asleep, and awakens the next morning, slightly tired due to the loss of energy, most of which would have already been replaced. These attacks seem to occur between 3 and 5 AM, because that is when people have the most amount of life force available in their bodies. Psychic vampires have been known to attack nightly, to keep their energy level at the same level. Some people have even been attacked by the same vampire night after night, year after year, although most psychic vampires feed on different people each night. Psychic vampires can even attack during the day, although this is not as common. Intentional psychic vampires are usually very evil people who freely choose to be a vampire, upon their deaths, become eternal in their astral bodies and live there. More often than not psychic vampires are just people who unwittingly take other people's energy because they are not able to make enough of their own. These people draw the energy from anyone who happens to be around them.

Have you ever been around someone who, whenever you are around them for any length of time, you feel exausted? Or those people who act like they are your friend, but all they do is complain and wear you down? These are psychic vampires.

Psychic vampires DO drain off the life energy of others around them, but many dont even know that they are doing it. They just know that when they are around certian people, and they tell them their problems, that they feel better for a little while. This could even be someone who is addicted to attention.

Some psychic vampires do know what they are doing, though. They will manipulate you to get what they want, and that isnt always just your energy. Sometimes it is your time, or your money.

Even the "Satanic Witch" who follows LeVey's Black Bible do not tollerate psychic vampires.

A psychic vampire is someone that feeds off of the life force of other people. This is done by drawing that energy from their target and into themselves to increase the level of their own energy. This life force has several names in a variety of cultures. Among the chinese it is called Chi or Qi. The Japanese call it Ki. In India it is known as Prana. Among the Norse peoples it is called Hamingja. In Hawaii it is called Mana. Some pull this energy in either through the eyes or the mouth. Some extend energy tendrils into their target and siphon off the energy that way. Otheres use actualy physical contact to draw in that energy. The more experienced can use which ever method it easiest at the time.

Also, psychic Vampires possess most of the enhanced abilities of their blood drinking counterparts, but none of their weaknesses. Once one starts to feed this way, they can never stop as the body cannot readjust to going without that extra life force and it has a detrimental effect on the health.

Psychic Vampires don’t know any better.

They drain energy from others. But when they find the light within themselves, they never need to suck the energy from others again. I encourage them to keep searching, one day they do find that the energy of others is just never enough and somehow they turn within. They will then begin to shine and the energy that powers up from within them actually sustains those other poor unenlightened souls still thinking the answers to feeling good are in someone else. When that day comes the psivampire become a mystic and often begins to teach. I saw this at the HIstory Channel once. :)

If I am correct, a "psychic vampire" is someone, a "vampire", that feeds off of "life energy" (like your aura) instead of blood.


Quite interesting really. Seemed like they were "smelling" the victim or something, but I lack knowledge of this area. Even showed these photos of the fingers of the psychic vampire and the victim and how the vampire seemed to get a stronger aura after draining some from the victim, whose aura got a bit less "flarey". Anyway, hoped I help.

You've already gotten many good answers. I'd just like to add that, just as someone bitten by a vampire might become a vampire, someone who's been the victim of a psi-vamp for too long often will become a psi-vamp themselves. *They* start expecting more help, needing more attention from other, healthier friends, etc., all the while trying (often unconsciously) to regain the energy (which time and money are manifestations of!) of which they've been drained. I've seen it happen. "Enablers" are often the victims of psi-vamps.

A 'vampire' that feeds off your life force rather than your blood. The whole incubus and succubus thing can be thrown in that category.

I mostly hear the term when people are talking about a friend/acquaintance who is selfish and demanding and who leaves you feeling emotionally drained after every conversation or encounter. I have a friend that sucks the life out of me and leaves me feeling like crap but she seems energized by our conversations. The conversations are always about her problems and how she needs my advice to 'solve' her situation and feel better emotionally. She's oblivious to the fact that she's stressing me out, etc.. Many people have referred to her as an emotional or psychic vampire before.

a psychic vampire is a person that is a vampire that can still your psychic abilities.i am witch so i fear the vamp and try to stay away from them!but the vampires that are psychic have that power to steal your pysychic powers.ive neve r met any b4 but dont want to neither.

Psychic Vampire refers to a being/person that feeds off the emotional state of thier victim. Often they drain them of thier energy or personal power. The victims life force is drained and they become tired or ill.

Such is what I was told by some tele show on Vampires xDDD

you should read the satanic bible.. you'll get that and all kinds of other valuable information from there... I had a friend for over four years who was this to me and it took me along time to see her for what she was... a person like this will use you for their own nastiness and if you don't know what to look for you wont directly see it, they will wear you out with their own energy and you will do anything in your own power to help them :) :) :)
