How do I let a company know that I will not be taking a job with them. But still be on their good side so down the line if I need a job I can turn to them?

I am a recruiter...I like it here.. once a month or so.
You have to close the door, you took another job not there's.

I would be honest because honesty is best and second..if they do look you up in the future chances are good that they will have in writing that you declined the offer due to a lie....

I would be polite and apologetic in saying something like.. Thank you for the offer, I know I would have enjoyed working here...all the people seem nice and I think I would have fit in perfectly, unfortunately I have to decline the offer at this time, but I hope you will keep my file on hand for future reference.

You should speak to them very frankly that you have liked the job and work profile and very keen to join them. but your association with present company has many running projects which need to be finished before you leave. You can not leave the present company in between the project... and other company will appreciate your loyalty

Explain to them that at this time you are having family problems and you dont think at this time you are able to perform the duties. They will understand and consider for a later position since its family problems!

Write them a professional letter thanking them for their interest and that do to unforeseen circumstances you are unable to accept at this time. Apologize for for not being able to accept.
