I am terrified and want to get out of my dream but can't wake myself all the way up or move for help from my partner to wake me all the way up. It will happen repetitivley too, like I will feel like I'm about to wake my self all the way up, than ?I will feel myself falling deeper into the dream again. Eventually I wake all the way up and am terrified like what was happening in the dream was a real life experience. Does anyone know what might cause this and what it is called?

This is called "Sleep Paralisis" one explanations is as follows:

"although the causes are not yet fully understood scientists are speculating that sometimes when we wake up our brain "forghets to "tell" the body to stop being paralyzed ( The brain induces a paralysis of the body so that we won't reenact our dreams while sleeping) and that causes the phenomenon. "

i have had similar experience wherein i was between sleep and wakefulness and i can't move. my friend recommended that i try moving the tips of my toes or fingers or both so i can jolt myself awake. it's effective for me but it doesn't prevent the dream from happening again.

It is a pretty common dream for anyone that had a disturbing child hood. It is indeed frightening and feels very real.. My heart goes out to you ... cause after these dreams one never feels quite rested..

Sounds like you have night terrors. Talk to your doctor about it.. usually young children have them but I have had one or two in my teens.
