One cousin claims that "Black Dutch" means half French and half German lineage, but in the Deep South of Appalacia, it means something entirely different! It can mean a very unusual mixture of peoples and ethnic groups. Can anyone give me specific research information on this group and some good websites with lots of information. This term means nothing to the native Europeans that I have asked about it. My mother's line carried both the darker coloring of the French or true brunettes until my generation, but they also carried the fairer coloring of the German or British with dark brownish hair and blue or green eyes. They all looked European. There is no known Indian bloodlines, but there is some sort of family connection to Pocahantas in Jamestown Colony. My great-grandparents came from Tennessee, Alabama, Geogia, and the Carolinias mainly. I would like to know more about these igmatic people in my family tree.
