If you want to be able to understand why things are the way they are today, you need to know what events led up to the present.
You can learn a lot from history. Not just dates and stuff, but how
different things came to be. How events or specific things progressed up 'till today.
Often voting is the only way that a single person can have a voice, politically. You don't like something going on in the city you live in? The county, state or your country? Moaning about things you see that are wrong is a waste of time. Voting is how we, as Americans can express how we feel about how our gov't is run.
In Calif. nearly half of the people don't bother to vote. That might be why the state is in such a mess. If the young people here would vote, they could create a major political power to be reckoned with.

Every thing has a history and is built from that history. In order to understand the present and the future, history is extremely important. Voting is important and it's sad that many people just don't do it. The majority of people need to take a stand and be heard in their government.

You study history to learn from the past, so as not to repeat the same mistakes. After you study history, you should understand why you need to vote.

In the United States, the American History course is a requisite for high school graduation, thus there are no options to studying it; the key, naturally, is assimilation which is voluntary though advised. As for voting, if we desire for our Democracy, however flawed, to survive, we must participate in perpetuating it through casting ballots, hopefully with the necessary education as to the candidates and issues.
