Other than the fact that macs cannot get a lot of the viruses that PC's get...Why else would people prefer Macs over PC in Graphics design and animation and stuff like that??

This is a question which will have very opinionated answers.

15 years or so ago, Mac's were better, because they had better sofdtware available for tasks which now you can get software for on teh Windows platform. A Current PC compared to a Current Mac, IMO, the PC is better. Mac has like what 2 or 3 VIdeo editing programs and DVD authorizing programs? You can get many many more for PC. Mac's did not have the software flexibliity Microsoft platforms had until they made Windows work on Mac's.
But you still do not have the same hardware flexibility. You want to use a serial controlled switching device or some other sort of custom or specialized hardware? Good luck getting it to work on a mac. Well maybe in Windows on a Mac.
If you want to spend $4000 for a WinMac. Or just take your dusty old Pentium 233 and stick that serial controller onto one of the 2 serial ports :)

But ultimately, that is the direction it is going.. Macs are hyped to be so unique and special and better.. well Mac's are just getting more like a PC everytime they release a new one. Now they run Windows too!?! ZOMG the specialness. Viruses? I haven't had one in a long time.... if you know what your doing, you won't get viruses.

What about console systems? Just PC wannabes. PS3 Graphics < PC graphics. Show me any console system that can outperform a PC? Can't be done.
I'm going way off topic here..

Apple Mac are geared towards Graphics design and multimedia. As for the virus, you have to understand that the PC is more mainstream meaning more users hence more hackers. The PC or Wintel PC are called defacto standard. As for the Apple it is still a good system but their market is niche. I don't want to say anything against Mac because I might get flak from Apple Fanatics.

Not true(anymore) With Windows Vista(Microsofts New OS) bcoming out on the 30th the graphics on windows will look better. Vista has a lot more security. MAc and PC are now equals. Originally microft didnt have that great of graphics but mac had some simmiliar to vista so thats one reason it was prefered. It also was more secure but with Vista security is the main selling point PC has more programs for it so you should probably go with that

SPEED:

Fact: Microsoft XP, 95,98, ME, NT, 2K, are consecutive processing environments. They are ALL S___L___O___W___!

The 20Gigabyte Vista OS, like all Microsoft OSes, and all running programs, execute in a serial process, one bit at a time, through the CPU, so that Vista will be even
S___L___O___W___E___R___!

And, Vista comes with all the old "114,000 Microsoft Virus Definitions", PLUS, lots of NEW ONES!

Mac OS X, *BSD (there are now about 25 versions!), and GNU/Linux, all run concurrent processing environments. All the programs you have open run in parallel. This is common for all the 'Nix clones.

You can have 20 open desktop environments, with up to 200 open applications in open windows, running at the same time, on each desktop for 4,000 open applications. in BSD/Mac, and GNU/Linux.

In bench tests all the 'Nix based OSes run upto 50 times faster than the serial Microsoft XP, in bench mark shootout tests.

Most of those tests involved highly tweaked XP gaming systems, while the 'Nix installs were un-patched, not optimized for the tests.

Graphics:
All the movies since "TITANIC-1997" have been animated, blue-screen CGI, in clusters of GNU/Linux, up to Shrek2, which was done in a cluster of Macs.

The Gimp is one of the hundreds of fantastic video graphic resources for the 'Nix platforms.

'Nix (dates back to Unix 1969, 386BSD of 1984, Linux of 1991) is great, in cheap PC boxes!

5500 free applications, in total, today, in PCLinuxOS. The list grows. More GNU/Linux Distros are at http://distrowatch.com

Then, there are also 134,430 free programs at http://sourceforge.net

Macs are faster, more reliable, they do have tons of great software that PCs don't. and you can run Windows on it now as well. Apple works hard to make their products great and care about their customers, while Microsoft doesn't as much.

because it is a very stable operating enviornment.and it foucuses all of the memory into one program, making it faster. i however perfer PC over Mac, because of the limited support of softwares mac has.
