freedom of speech does not mean to be used within individuals

Freedom of speech is the concept of the inherent human right to voice one's opinion publicly without fear of censorship or punishment. The right is enshrined in the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights and is granted formal recognition by the laws of most nations.

From this wiki definition, freedom of speech is menat to provide rights of people to criticize their own government, not to verbally attacking each others

What I find amazing is how much people want to include everything in to freedom of speech. Here in lyes the problem, the founding fathers knew what they ment unfortianitly we are just able to inteript what they ment. because the way it has been interpited over the years in the judicial system i do believe the original intent has become scewed to the point people no longer feel they need to think before they speek.

It also comes to ones perception not ones intent. i could say something but it is preceived completely wrong. they i must explian and defend what is said.

So do i believe it has gone to far, yes but only because the origianal intent has been so screwed up by the courts, it no longer is freedom of speech it has become freedom of whatever the hell you want.

While most of these personal attacks are probably covered under the right to free speech, any responsible person would not use thier rights in that way. The right to free speech is to allow the free exchange and debate of ideas within our society without fear of imprisonment, government interference, or other harm. When you personally attack someone, you are not allowing the free exchange of ideas or a real debate on the issues that society faces. While covered by free speech, personal attacks are nothing more than someone saying that they have absolutely no evidence to back up their opinion so they will insult you for yours.

There's saying my history teacher used to say, let's see if I can remember it:

"I respect that you have the right to say what you believe, but I don't have to believe it."

Okay, it probably sounded better than that, but it's the same idea. Everybody has the right, guaranteed by the First Amendment, to say what they what they believe. It's their right, as it is your right to say what you want to say. But while you must let them speak, you do not need to accept it as your personal views.

Remember that this works both ways, so those who are mean & attacking others must acknowledge your right to voice your beliefs, even if they don't agree with them.

I know what you mean, though. Sometimes it feels that it only works one way. But free speech should never be restricted, because if restricts somebody's freedom of speech, someday they may choose to restrict yours.

Cherish your freedoms. Too many have fought and died to protect the rights we enjoy.

If the type of speech you object to is outlawed, how long will it take for speech that you consider acceptable to become a crime?

There is a right to speak: there is no obligation to listen.

However, Free speech is not a substitute for using your right of free thought.

THINK before you speak, and it solves all of these issues.

No. People really haven't changed that much. What has changed is our ability to record, file and watch/listen to other's when they think no one can hear them. It's technology, which people created so it's a vicious cycle.
