My dad is telling me to take Latin...but Latin seems boring to me. I feel like taking German though.
Here's the thing...supposedly Latin is good if I want to go to an Ivy League School or any good college...which I do.
Though I don't want to be in medicine or anything like that where Latin is used.
I want to take German because supposedly it is good with careers in technology-I'm not certain on what I want to be, but some ideas are sound engineering, graphic design, anything big in technology, or journalism.
I'm also of German/Austrian decent
So help!? Which should I take? German or Latin?
Which is better for my future?

The choices are Spanish, French, German, and Latin...but because I didnt take Spanish or French in junior high, I'd be behind other people in the program I'm going to take later on...so to prevent that I'm choosing German or Latin

I would have to say Latin. I took four years of latin in high school and it has helped me tremendously with English. I plan on going to law school after so I know it'll help with that too. Latin may be a dead language but it really does help with understanding English words, and definition of words. It'll help you be able to define words you havent even ever heard of by comparing parts of the English words to Latin. It really helped me on the SATs and im sure will help with the LSAT. I know it may seem like its boring, but I really enjoyed it. This year in college I took Spanish and knowing the Latin also helped with that. Most languages are derived from Latin, so it really helps. I would go with whatever you feel like taking the most however. It is your decision. Dont let somebody else make it for you. I'm sure whatever you choose, you will have fun with.

Definitely take German!
While Latin is and always will be a respected language, its usage in today's world is close to dead. (Hint, this is the exact reason why the concept of liberal arts colleges became reality--the world was tired of having to learn things that were not useful to them)
And this is coming from someone who just got accepted Early to an Ivy League university and has sat through countless hours of professors explaining what they're looking for.

German is probably better for you, because you are interested in it. You're more likely to learn something you like. Plus, all the people I've known that have taken German love the class and look foward to class everyday. As for Latin, it won't matter to colleges if you don't do well in the class.

I think you should go for German. For me, I think it's a more global language compared to Latin. And Latin is a bit boring too. Speaking German can really help, especially if you're aiming for places like Europe. Too bad you can't learn French. I would have gone with French. Cheers!

if your not interseted in learning latin then you wont apply yourself to the subjet which will affect your overall grades. i think you should learn german if it interests you more. you can always take latin later on if you really need it for your future career but as you dont know what you want to do with yourself just yet i suggest you go with what you think is right. not your dad!!!

take german.
latin is so stupid. my choice was latin a long time ago.
and i've never used it. just a few months after school i forgot everything.
it's only usefull if you want to study medicine, but even then you can still learn it.
it's much better to speak another language in todays world.
latin is dead ... you can't order a pizza at any place in the world in latin ;)

For your plans, take German, Latin is a dead language, which means it is no longer used a language being spoken by an ethic group.
