I must admit I do have a very small blemish on the side of my nose that I am very self aware of

Of course not! It just means you care about your appearance, which can't be a bad thing unless you're ignoring other things or people to do so.

Apparently, your friend doesn't know what vain is (or there's more to the story). A vain person is obsessed with how they look. For example, a woman who won't go to the laundromat or store without having on makeup, hair fixed nice, nice clothes etc... Just because you care about the way you look doesn't mean you're vain. Congrats for making a change for your health. Don't let so-called friends discourage you, especially jealous ones lol.

Do you mean conceited, or insecure? Obsessively worrying about one's looks is not usually associated with excessive self belief (which vanity is.) Beauty is most definitely in the eye of the beholder, but self belief goes a long way to making a person more attractive. Hold your head up high and never point out your flaws - after all, even Brad Pitt has acne scars.

Not really, everyone is vain to a degree. I find that the more free time you have nothing to do the more you focus on your appearance. Try and fill the time in your life as much as possible because no one wants a partner who's only interest is looking at them-self in the mirror.

You can be accused of being vain when infact your just insecure, hence why you keep looking in mirrors! Not cos you look good, but just cos you think you look bad.
