To the guy who answered about how the 6 hours is the time for me to prepare snacks...i don't think so...i don't even have a husband...and i wouldn't prepare snacks for my boyfriend*he's not even in the same state right now...he's in texas at fort hood...

It's a lot of hype to get the viewers raring to go and to sell commercial air time thus racking up the big $$$$$!

You answered your own question. It's all about the money. The longer the pre-game show, the more advertising they can sell. I also like the Colts.

There are hours of pre-game shows on ESPN etc. every Sunday during the regular season. Given that, 6 hours is not very many for the Super Bowl.

Yep, it's all about ratings and the advertising dollar.
Networks can charge a lot to advertisers since they know that record numbers of viewers will be tuning in.

Everyone else pretty much summed it up. It's all about the advertising, baby. Plus, it gives us guys an excuse to drink beer at 10 o'clock in the morning.

Well, a lot of it is for advertisement, the more there are, the more money they get. Also, believe it or not, a lot of people really enjoy all the pregame action.

it's part of the Super Bowl weekend/buildup. you're talking about the biggest sporting event of the year...this is like a football fan's favorite time of the year. and every husband's excuse to get away from the wife.

so corporate america can cash in on the spectacle that the super bowl has become, turning yet another generation of americans, and people across the world, into over consuptive whores.

Because the superbowl rules and you are just an ingorent woman. The pregame is long so you have time to prepare snacks for your husband and his friends. Get over it. Just watch your American Idol and leave superbowl stuff to us men.
