I'd stay away from University of Toronto if I were you. Why? Because it's in Toronto, the city where the people only think of themselves first, second, and third with zero regard for others. Stay away from this city. Don't even visit. Population's 2.5 million and 2.4 of them are selfish, condescending, and would step over their own mothers just to get something done faster.
If I were you, I'd pick between McMaster and McGill. Both are pretty prestigious and has great track records. I'm not sure about the University of British Columbia, but I have heard good things about it along with the University of Alberta.
Oh, and FYI, with Alberta, you won't have to worry about finding a decent payingjob there because they're all decent. Because of the recent economic boom, that province is DESPERATE for people to work. Hell, a fast food employee makes just as much as a security guard in Toronto ($9/hour). McDonalds offers employees a $100 signing bonus, while some restaurants are offering $500 and a paid vacation to Mexico after a year of working there.

There's no #1, but McGill, U of T, Mount Allison, Western, UBC and some others are well thought of. It really depends on what you want to study.
Western is usually considered the tops for math and computer science, but the #1 law school would be Osgoode Hall with Dalhousie a close second. For med school McGill would be up there. For undergrad liberal arts Mount Allison is the cat's behind.
When it comes to journalism it's King's College. There is just no equivalent to all-purpose prestige a la Harvard or Oxbridge in Canada.

The only one with the massive financial resources to stay among the front ranked international universities (i.e next rung down from a Cambridge or a Harvard) is Toronto. But where you might want to go for a specific programme is another matter.

Canadian Universities are of very high quality and have very successful global reputations.
Answering this question fairly depends on the course you are considering. For example, if you want to do engineering, the University of Waterloo is reknowned world-wide for its innovation in engineering and computers. If you want to go into business or commerce, Queen's University is the best in that area. McMaster is known for biology and pre-med. U of T is known for pre-law. Ryerson and Carleton are known for journalism.
If you are asking just generally, I would have to say U of T, UBC, and Queen's.

Depends what area you're looking at... University of Toronto, McGill, McMaster, Waterloo, even Queen's and UBC, and St Francis Xavier are all highly rated... UofT and McGill are the best known internationally, but it really depends what you're looking for.
