I guess what I mean is like, what's the pay like, the hours. Do you have to have a certain amount of experiece to get to a nice restaurant or does it matter. Things like that.

A nice (or good) restaurant usually wants experienced servers. Some will hire you on as a bus person, and if you do well let you become a server later.

As a server in a nice restaurant you will: get good tips; meet better people; develop a following (people will come back because of the good service YOU gave them).

A restaurant server's work is hard; sometimes hectic and stressful.

I think that nicer restaurants train their employees and will more than likely want someone with experience.

Pros:-more than likely better tips because richer people eat there and the food costs more, better hours than say a fast food restaurant, better pay

Cons:-different shifts all the time, still working for tips, low hourly wage, sometimes long hours, more expected of you, less room for slip-ups (compared to say McDonalds or Wendys)

Pros: good tips.. provided that you are an exemplary server and earn your tips. If its an upscale restaurant, you might hope to get a little better than minumum wage for wait-staff.
Cons: Long hours on your feet, never missing a chance to make your customers happy. Taking it on the chin and smiling when you don't get the tip you expected.

PRos: YOu get to meet tons of people...nice and not so nice...IT's up to you how you'll respond to it. Tips are a plus as well.
'Cons: People vent their frustration on you. If you know how to mentally handle this, then it would be a Pro as opposed to a con. Another con is, many in the public may smell your sweaty armpits and they will NOT tell you about it. Lol.

you will probably start out at minimum wage...which here in California is $6.75 an hour.

Pros: promotion potential, tips, meet new people that you work with

Cons: hard busy work, constant moving around, low starting pay, you always have to have a smile on when youre serving a table, uniform
