I used to think that was so true. In the scene where Dorthy, the Lion, and the Scarecrow are continuing to follow the yellow brick road after the mean witch is on top of that really old house. When they turn around to leave, you can see in the background with all the trees someone jump off a ladder or something and start hanging. The myth says it's one of the Munchkins for being upset he didn't have as big of a role as someone else or something like that. The other night I watch Myths and Legends on TV Land and they explained that while making the movie they had several exotic animals flown in from all over. In the background it's actually this really big bird pecking at the ground, and the part that looks like the man's hanging, the bird turns to the side and spreads one of its wings. I always thought that it was someone hanging until they really pointed it out on that show. They had one of the original Munchkins tell whether it was or not, and he said that if that had been one of the actors someone on the set would have known about it, but that the Munchkins were not even in the area at the time that scene was shot.

Aw yes rumors. I have heard the same thing growing up and to be honest I don't if it is real or not. There is a scene in the forest after they have already found the lion and are skipping down the yellow brick road where a friend pointed out a odd object swinging in the distance. If you really want to know I'm sure you can google it.

It appears at the end of the Tin-Woodsman scene. The link below will help. It appears in the background a munchkin is hanging from a tree - the studio says it is just a bird placed in the background to add realism.

NO and why is anyone starting a disturbing rumor such as that and WHY would a person intentionally look for a scene like that. But true that Margaret Hamilton [aka wicked witch] received bad burns on her hand caused by the flame on the staw-end of the Broom. URBAN LEGEND?? From what neighborhood or group is rumoring something like that ????

theres two parts that people think is somebody getting hung, but after looking at both closely...neither look like it.

one part theyre on the yellow brock road and in the background is an ostrich that looks a little wierd, but thats all it is

another part is when all the dwarfs are around, and one of them is swinging back and forth...that would looked a little creepy but i still dont think hes being hung

I looked and looked and never saw a thing its supposed to be (from the version I heard) that you can see a dead munchkin hanging from a tree in the forest. Your supposed to see it in the background right around the time the Tin Man picks an apple from the tree and the tree gets mad and starts throwing apples at him. We own the movie and never saw it.

Thats an urban legend. In reality its one of several birds they had on the set. Its a stork or crane like bird that lines up in the backround just enough to give an illusion of someone hanging.

I saw the segment slowed down and zoomed in on TV Land's Myths and Legends.

Whether or not its a munchkin hanging himself has been debated and will be until the end of time. id like to believe it is, but if you want to see it for your self...

its right after dorothy and tin man meet the scare crow. the witch shows up throws fire and they sing follow the yellow brick road. as they leave, in the very center between 2 trees in the foreground- seriously dead center, and back- there looks like what appears to be a shadow of someone hanging themselves.

I always think i see it, it could be flase but it loooks like something falling. If my memory serves me correct it is in the part where all four of them (D, Scarecrow, Tinman, and the Tiger) finish a song and they start skipping away in the forest, towards the camera, If you look behind like in the forest it looks like there is something that falls from a tree
