Gold has had great value and has been sought for thousands of years. Nobody can be sure who first placed value on it.
Many claim the first gold coin was "minted" in what is now Turkey about 600 B.C. There were discovered Egyptian gold pieces dated by the markings from 1400 B.C.

Gold has been around for centuries. Our first record of its use was with the mesopotamians. It is impossible to single out the exact perosn who discovered it.
