I got nice new towels for Christmas. However, i have a set of old towels (6 bath, 4 hand, 4 washcloths). They are worn out and ragged. Is this the kind of thing to get rid of? Or just donate them to the Salvation army and get it over with?

Donate them to an animal shelter. That what I have done in the past. The animal shelter will use them for blankets and besides dogs don't care what the towel looks like as long as they have something to lay on other then the ground.

Don't donate them! What do poor people want with raggedy towels?
You can cut out the good spots and use them for cleaning rags. But decide ahead of time how many cleaning rags you need, and only cut that many. As for the rest, dump them.
And if you want to be nice, donate half your new towels to the Salvation Army. You can always get more for your birthday (-:.

If you color your hair at home use the big towels to drape around your shoulders to protect your clothes. I have one of my hubby's shirts that he doesn't wear anymore that I use for that, but a towel that you don't care about getting stained would work just as well. You can also use the big towels as drop cloths when painting or doing craft projects around the house.

i just watched a show on animal planet about the houston spca. it was heartbreaking! they showed a horse that, oh my! it was a skeleton with skin, pitiful! it made me cry. then they had a dog that had a chain around it's neck that was embedded. the skin had grown around the chain. again, i cried. also, there was a dog that had hung itself on a chain over the fence. it had been dead for several hours, the people were in the house 10 feet away. again, i cried.
anyway, they operate on donations. please give the old ratty towels and such to your local shelter. those poor animals would think a ratty old towel was like a BRAND NEW BED! please, i beg you to donate them to a animal shelter!

Donate to an animal shelter the little animals love this kind of stuff it keeps them warm, instead of having to just lay on a hard service.

I use my old towels for putting on the floor when painting. It helps to protect the carpet. I keep them in a box with the paints and brushes.

I use old towels for anything that I wouldn't mess "good towels" with... kitchen spills, the barbeque, the car... cuz if they get really grody, you can just toss them.
Don't just toss them tho... that's wasteful.

donate them to the animal shelter, they use tons of old blankets towels and sheets to keep animals warm and to house them on when they are injured.
