Hitler was trying to produce a master race. He only did what women do every time they pick a partner to reproduce. Strong, good looking, smart. It's how evolution works, Hitler was just trying to speed it up. For example "hairy men". Most women don't like hairy men. Therefor they won't breed with them, and eventully there will be more bare cheasted Homo Sapiens and hairy men will become extinct.
Now he went overboard when he killed the jews and such. Obviously. But sientists kill off bad embryos so as not to pass a defective gene onto another human being. Is this not the same thing?
Technology has evolved greatly in the past 200 years. Isn't it about time we evolve the human race ourselves instead of waiting for evolution to do it?

I'm not idolizing Hitler. I'm mearly expressing a common thread between Hitler and Gene Therapy, and why Gene Therapy isn't more popular when its results are undoubtedly good for society and the human species as a whole

Setting all moral issues aside strictly for the sake of discussion, Hitler had a seriously flawed method. Appearence & lineages was a major factor. I think blond hair & blue eyes are attractive, but not superior. In fact, darker skin allows for more protection form skin cancer. If we were to adopt a policy strictly for improving our gene pool, regardless of morals, the physically, mentally & intelectually inferior would be forcably steralized & we would gather egs & sperm from genius's & physically superiour individuals.
I do not support this but I do support the idea of free (optional) birth control & steralizations for low income as well as the physically, mentally & intelectually handicapped. We should tell them they can't procreate, but they shouldn't just keep on having kids just because they can't afford the options.
*** I just want to make it abundently clear that I do not support telling people who can and can not reproduce. (with the possible exception of drug addicted women who keep having kids & neglecting them.) I just think those who wish to have birth control but have difficulty affording it should be helped out.

We've always had the technology to 'evolve' ourselves (I put it in inverted commas because what you mean isn't what evolution means) with artificial selection and you're right. Women do it. In studies they've shown when women are with a smart, well paid man who is a bit of a nerd they'll cheat on him so they can get the genes of a stronger, more masculine male and then use the other man's finances to raise them. Best of both worlds I suppose is how they see it. Maybe they pretend their husband didnt pay attention but whats really happening is that those ignorant women are just slaves to their genes.
What you're talking about is eugenics and while it could improve the human race we've seen from Hitler that the whole concept is morally repugnant and so nobody will touch the idea with a barge pole. If there were a different race of improved human beings what would it mean for the rest of us? I fear that in the future new gene technologies will make these questions a pressing matter and we'll have to open the can of worms and see how the situation is to be tackled. All I can tell you is that the worst way to bring up the subject is to say 'maybe Hitler had a point'...

Interesting notion, but i dont think Hitler was on the right track there.
Evolution occurs, by Darwin's definition, by natural selection. Not necessarily which specimen looks most attractive, but also, which traits are most advantageous. ie. A red beetle does not fare so well in a dry grass environment, but through minute gene frequency changes, the colour evenually 'mutates' to a brown, thus, future generations have the ability to camoflauge and then fluorish. This new 'brown' gene works and the species carries on while the red beetle population quickly becomes extinct.
Not that hairy men have special gene sequences to extend their lifespans lol but just a point that its not only looks that matter. I dont think Hitler considered this as part of his speculative 'quick evolution' plan.
Also, Hitler's plan for a "master race" would have decreased the size of the gene pool dramatically, if it had been accepted globally as 'evolution express.' If this happened, the world would be a more boring place.

Forget the Hitler crap and just try to focus on what "natural" selection means.
For selection of a mate to be truly "natural", it has to be unimpeded. Chubby guys might be more comfortable with chubby girls, tall guys with tall girls, blondes with blondes, etc., etc. Then there will be those odd couples...the ones of whom you say "what does SHE see in him?" (or vice versa).
Evolution, as you suggest, tends to create a more universal "norm" and the population bell curve centers around those attributes. But human diversity suggests that there will always be exceptions...enough to fill out the tails of the bell curve. And that's a good thing.
You see, nobody can DEFINE (let alone mandate) what the acceptable norm will be. God help us if we had to live without every accomplishment, every invention, every exceptional thought that came from a supposedly flawed person.
I think Hitler would not have admired Stephan Hawking (below).
In any truly masterful race, there will always be room for the least among us. And among those so called "lesser" people we will inevitably find a new more meaningful form of perfection!

The perfect race was only Hitler's excuse for killing the Jews. Hitler disliked the Jews, because some Jewish merchants had given Hitler a hard time in his earlier life as a painter. Hitler and the rest of the Nazi party had also believed the age old stereo type, that the Jews controlled the money. The Nazi party believed that if they good gain control of the money, that they could gain support of the conservative business establishment in Germany. Hitler was not on to something, but he was definitely aware of Darwin. He was able to use evolution, science, and the ideal healthy race, for his murderous and evil instincts, that were nothing more than his intolerance,hatred, and racism. Hitler was also a psychopath that hated himself. There is evidence that he had bribed a genealogist to conceal his own Jewish ancestry, and he probably also killed homosexuals, because he felt guilty of his own homosexual tendencies. Hitler obviously had a very low self esteem, and therefore wanted to play God and indulge himself in manipulating the world to satisfy his own evil dreams and passions. Also I personally believe that genetic cloning could be dangerous. We as humans have the right to look for cures for diseases, but that does not gives the right to play God. There is a good moral in Mary Shelley's "Frankenstein".

To purposely try to breed the human race, apart from having major ethical problems, can also cause problems biologically. Species are better off with lots of diversity, so that as environments change, the species as a whole can survive. Really, traits are only "good" or "bad" in relation to a specific environment. You raise a good point in that individuals do select mates based on certain criteria, but apart from the general "good health" indicators, the qualities that make someone attractive vary greatly depending on who you ask. Ask one woman and she might say that chest hair is really sexy. Ask another one and she might prefer a younger-looking man.
