Of the recent presidents:

President Johnson quietly retired to Texas, in part due to health concerns, and died fairly soon after leaving office.
President Nixon found himself ostracized and spent his time as an author trying to refurbish his reputation.
President Ford quietly, but gracefully, retired to California.
President Carter created a foundation and has been very active both in charitable activities and in the promotion of democracy internationally.
President Reagan made a few big $ speeches (I think he was paid $2,000,000 for a trip to Japan, for example), but then faded from public life as his senility became too obvious.
President Bush has largely retired quietly to Texas.
President Clinton, in the model of President Carter, has been very active on the international scene pursueing global peace and health initiatives.

As for the current President Bush: It is unlikely, given how thoroughly he is despised abroad, that he could follow in the steps of Presidents Carter and Clinton and attempt to advance any cause internationally. Additionally, unlike President Nixon, President Bush has no demonstrable foreign policy successes, and so he cannot opt to be an elder statesman and author - at least not with any credibility.

Domestically, he has long avoided audiences that might be hostile to him and avoided any true association with non-religious charities, so I think that many of the speaking engagements and opportunities to create/advance charities that other presidents have taken will be closed to him.

He remains popular with the religious right, however, and so I expect that he will become a fixture as a guest speaker in the conservative megachurches that have been his staunchest supporters. He will use the forum to continue to attempt to justify his wars, and will be warmly received.

Junior will have a great life under the watchful eye of the Secret Police !! Draw his megabucks and benefits for a full lifetime and watch his daughters develop families of their own (no chances of THEM being lost to war -- huh ?)
He will no doubt have many guests at his Crawford, Tx Compound---among which will undoubtedly be numerous members of the Faad Family and the power brokers from the Mexican government---some good ole dove hunting -- talk it outs to happen there-----While he oversees the multi-million dollar building of his Presidential Library (probably be built in Austin, Tx)- ---and kick back and enjoy the major tax breaks that he gave himself and all his super wealthy friends while in office---and be hosted by any number of THEM at partys and events that you and I couldn't get into with a move from GOD !!!!
Sounds like he'll really be leading a sad little existence -- huh ???

Most modern presidents after retiring wrote and lectured, sat on corporate boards and started non-profit centers and libraries. After making only $500,000 a year, he will, like Clinton and Carter and Ford and Reagan all did, earn millions a year afterward. Of course, he was already a wealthy man, so earning big $$$ will not be on top of his list.

No, I don't believe it will..
He is the most powerful man in the world..
He is President of the wealthiest , most powerful nation in the world
His political career is over and he is going out on top..
As a private citizen, he is a multimillionaire...
He has fantastic retirement benefits..
He may not get everything he wants politically over the next
two years but I doubt that this will ruin his day....any day....
How many people would not trade places with him in a second.
Don't worry about G.W.Bush, he will be fine...

He'll live a normal life again and it's not like he's defenseless or anything, he gets secret service protection. He'll get much needed rest after having to deal with the wars during his administration, it's enough to tire anyone out.
