Hello circuit friends, I am not a electronician. I have a transistor BC 549 and a circuit diagram where its symbol is printed but I dont know which one of the three leads is collector or emitter. I have both digital and anlog multimeters. is it possible to find out which is emitter with these? Please help me !

It's pretty easy to find the base of a transistor, but the bit differences between the emitter-bas junction and the collector-base junction are more mechanical than electrical. The collector junction is usually larger and capable of dissipating a bit more heat than is the the emitter junction. Just using a multimeter it's not going to be easy to tell which is which.

However, if you go out on the web and look for BC549, you'll get a link yo the Fairchild site http://www.fairchildsemi.com/pf/BC/BC549.html
and you can download a complete data sheet (including pin-outs) for the device.

Here's the datasheet:

Looking towards the flat, with the leads down, it goes
Collector Base Emitter
