I'm so sorry for your friend, to have both parents that sick has to be really hard on her. Well, first of all, since they both need the surgery, they would qualify for medical assistance or government access insurance- which means, they won't have to pay because they cannot pay, and their doctor would be able to have the hospital human resource department help them get the insurance prior to the surgeries.
Secondly, don't be so pessimistic about the surgeries; I worked for Cardiologists and a Heart Surgeon, and both my brothers had open heart and survived, it is not a death sentence. People live productive meaningful lives for 15-20 years after bypasses; if they need a "new heart", I believe the new hearts are good for at least 15 years now. If they do need a new heart however, I do not believe they will be able to get them because they do not have insurance that would cover that procedure, and I hope that is not the case with your friends parents......good luck to you and your friend....

How sad! They have to know which parent needs it more! There are ways they can get the medical attention they need. (Could your friend be telling you this to get attention? I've had friends in the past that used to tell of these great horrible things just to get sympathy and compassion. Just a thought...) You're right, you can't do anything, just continue to be her friend and be there for her. Stop feeling bad, be happy and bring her out of the blues. If your both sad then there's no escape from the sadness. Make your time together time away from thinking about it and happy time. Good Luck!

There have cases like this when brought to the media, newspapers, T.V., schools and other foundations donations are made for such causes. Do not give up hope. Help her to help save her father's life in these ways. It is possible. But don't hesitate, act on it quickly. It can be done. Good Luck and God Bless You.

Yes, you can. Listen. Listen to her and let her lean on you. You cannot get them a heart, so don't focus on what you can't do. Focus on what you can do. Be a friend. You may never know it, but you will probably sustain your friend through some really tough times. Good luck.

My best friends dad did die. Theres nothing you can do except be there for her in her time of need and show her that you care and let her know you are there for her if she needs anything or just wants to talk. She'll appreciate it.

I believe in a God that is alive, that is active here among us, and that is powerful and loving and able to bring healing. I myself was healed of heart problems when I asked a bunch of little kids to pray for me. While there may be nothing that you can do, God is willing and able to bring healing. Seek God, and you will find Him.

Sorry. Be there for him and know you can't fix it either. Guys are 'fixers' and try to make things better but sometimes we are helpless and can't stop death.
Be his friend, of course. Put your arm silently around him and just be there for him. He'll feel your concern and caring. That's all you can do.

the best thing you can do is just listen. If you can't say anything to make it better, all you need to do is let her know that you got her back no matter what.

just be there for them, or, if you wanted to, maybe you could start some sort of fundraiser you could do for the family or something, now that would be a really good gesture.
