What excercises are ideal for pregnancy? I know not to exhaust myself, do anything rigorous, no sit-ups/crunches, etc. but what IS allowed besides walking and swimming? I was thinking of taking up yoga, and was wondering if light weight lifting is ok on our bowflex--I have a 30lb. toddler to tote around, so it would be less than that for working out. Thank you.

My OB says walking , working out with a trainer or a pregnancy aerobic, yoga or pilates dvds only. She doesnt like the effects of the chlorine on the pregnant cervix, but always ask YOUR OB prior to starting a new excersse routine

The rule to go by is don't do anything your body wasn't already used to doing when you got pregnant, and when in doubt, talk to your doc. I loved doing pilates while I was pregnant. I got a book at the library specifically for doing pilates while pregnant. The third trimester is the time when you have to be even more careful, both because of your body's more cumbersome position (making it easy to injure yourself falling) and the extra weight which makes every move harder on your body. But if there are no medical complications with the pregnancy it's fine to maintain exercise during pregnancy.

I was told that you can continue with any exercises that you were doing before you got pregnant.
I got this Prenatal&Postnatal exercises book from my health nurse with mild stretch and strengthing exercises in it.
