You may want to consider professional cleaning services. The area will need to be cleaned AND disinfected. If it is that bad, probably the walls and cabinets will need treated also. At the same time, you will need to remove and prevent rodents from invading the cabin. You may also need to rid the premise of fleas, lice/mites carried by wild rodents.

In summary - leave it to the pros to get the cabin in running order quickly.

Sanding may work, but be certain to wear excellent respirators, not just dust masks. Too many diseases from rodent deposits. The question is how deep the stains have gone. Sanding takes off the finish and the wood just below. If the stain has gone deeper, then there is nothing you can do except encapsulate it with special encasulting pain such as Kilz.......your wood floors would become painted floors. Not a great idea as painted floors don't wear well. I'm not sure sanding and then bleaching it would help...............sorry.

The other lady is right..wear a respirator and disposable overall's and gloves and eye protection..when cleaning rodent droppings...Hun ta virus is carried by mice and rats. It is transmitted to humans from feces drying and getting airborn then, breathed in or absorbed on the skin. There is no known cure for Hunta...keep that in mind please. Usual treatment is a cocktail of antibotics and some anti-virals..but the antibotics treat the secondary infection not the Hunta. This virus is fatal in more than half of the cases!!!
Since you'll have to sand the floors anyway I would think strong bleach straight from the bottle to kill anything on the surface would be appropriate..However...I would go to the C.D.C. (Center for Disease Contol) site on line or call them directly and explain your problem, see what specific advice they have for you to clean that up and what to use.
If you have already tried to clean this up or removed waste from your cabin...GO TO THE DOCTORS IMMEDIATELY...tell the doctor what you have done...and have a full work up done..blood work, nasal smear..etc...if you've been exposed to anything, catch it as early as is possible...Please Take Care..Good Luck.

My husband and that i bought our first abode these days and there are some black jewelry and a few hazy white spots on the hardwood floor. My husband says we gained't do away with them devoid of sanding off the floor. is this authentic? A: (Bruce Johnson, Ask DIY Woodworking expert) I had a refinishing save for extra suitable than 10 years, and between the biggest issues I confronted grow to be the thank you to do away with stains in timber. The stains fall into 2 categories: white jewelry and black marks. the two are led to by way of water. while that's trapped contained eventually, that's a white ring. while it gets a danger to penetrate into the timber, you have a black mark. The white jewelry are not so annoying to preserve. Use a pad of very large metallic wool and drench it with lemon oil. The lemon oil won't get rid of the stain, in spite of the undeniable fact that it lubricates the metallic wool so as that it would not scratch the timber. Very gently buff out the white ring with the large metallic wool (determine A). you will possibly be able to desire to rub black marks all day, in spite of the undeniable fact that, and that they are going to in no way come out. the only thank you to get rid of them is to get rid of the end and then attack the stain. the challenge once you attempt that with an excellent previous? once you're putting out the end, you decrease the fee. on the floor, nevertheless, it rather isn't a controversy. in actuality, putting a clean end on a hardwood floor actually will improve the fee of your place. So first sand the end off the timber. Then attack the black mark with bleach. (yet until eventually now you touch the bleach bottle, ensure you're donning protection glasses and gloves.) Use a tumbler jar and an previous brush. Pour the bleach into the jar, dip the comb contained in the bleach, and brush the bleach onto the stain. enable the bleach evaporate for a pair of hours and then come back and shop on with yet another around. enable it sit down in one day. If the stain nevertheless isn't long gone, step up your efforts with commercial timber bleach. First, moisten the timber with a humid sponge to permit the bleach to penetrate extra advantageous. Then combination equivalent quantities of the two beverages that incorporate commercial timber bleach. Brush a liberal coat of the mixture on the damp timber and enable it soak
