Aside form the venom being isolated in the poison sacs, they are immune to themselves.

And if you don;t know the answer, then it's not a silly question. You will never learn if you do not ask, OK?

Great question! Frankly, this is just a guess. I think that the venom is only poisonous when it goes into the bloodstream. If you eat a critter that has been bitten, I don't think that the poison would harm you. The venom would be rendered harmless as it goes through the digestive tract. However, this is just a guess. Maybe a real herpatologist (is that a snake person?) will respond with the real story!

Snakes store venom in glands in the back of their head. When they consume an animal they have injected with venom, the snake's digestive system breaks down the venom so that it is no longer harmful. However, if the snake were to bite itself, the venom would enter into the snake's bloodstream and would be fatal.

Because snakes are immune to their own venom. Also, most snakes carry venom that must be injected directly into a bloodstream to act on the Central Nervous System. Even if they swallowed their own venom, their digestive juices would destroy it before it entered their blood.
