I have a 6 foot iguana and am trying to build it a cage. I am locating this cage at a door to go outside of my home that we never use. I have read they say to use green mesh for the sides or plexi-glass(with is very costly). Green mesh wont protect him from the wind or the cold. I already bought some plywood 2" X 4"'s to build the main structure with but am wondering if I could use plywood for the sides. How would they get fresh air? What is not costly at all that I could use for the sides and top that wont bring the wind and cold into this cage or is there a way that I can use something that brings in the sun but not the wind and the cold? Please help me as I have the main sides built with 2" X 4"'s but am confused on what to use for the sides of the cage.

I am also planning on building a cage and i am using plexi glass. Here in Maryland it's not that expensive. You can't use glass because it will let in the sun but block the healthy uva and uvb rays. Mesh will make him too cold, and i think screen and chicken wire are also not good cuz they will let in the cold. Unless you make the entire cage of wood and put in small windows of plexi glass. This way you don;'t have to buy much plexi glass and he can still have warmth and sunlight for basking. Hope this helps. I have a juvenile IG named Yoshi!

Our iguana apartment is built of 4x4s and 1 inch hardware wire and has a plywood house inside it with a radiant heater in the roof. Our igs know to go in there when it gets cold, but then again, here in Florida, it doesn't get too cold for long. If you live in a climate where cold is a real issue, you could always bring him inside during cold weather and let him stay outside the rest of the time. Good luck.

Anything solid...even plexiglass will shield out the UV lighting from the sun. Plexiglass is very expensive. My best solution is half the cage is inside, half the cage is outside. Leave the door, put in a flap in the door like a cat door, but have half the cage inside and half outside so the ig can go through it at leisure. Best I came up with.

Well i do know that iguana's need heat in order to live.
So I would think you could use what you are saying the green mesh if he is going to be indoors.
