I HEARD THE BATTERY LIFE IS BAD SO WHAT DO U THINK I SHOULD GET INSTEAD OF IPOD BUT I WANT IT TO BE THE SAME AS THE IPOD VIDEO JUST WITH BETTER FEATURES

If you are listening to music only, the Ipod battery lasts a long time. If you are watching videos, the battery life is a lot shorter. This is the same with any player. Music only will save the battery life. Anything that requires lighting up the background will seriously shorten battery life.

The Zune is similar to the Ipod video.

The five things that will affect iPod battery life the most are:

1- Format. Playing video eats battery life faster than music alone. Showing the album artwork for music probably falls somewhere between the two, because you're keeping a complex color image displayed on part of the screen instead of just a blank background.

2- Backlight. Turn the backlight timer down to 2 seconds if you need to use it to see anything for music, or off completely if you don't. Turn the backlight intensity down as far as you can tolerate to avoid wasting power on brightness that isn't necessary.

3- Volume. Crank the volume all the way up, and you'll only get 4-5 hours max, even if you're only playing music. Keep it down in the bottom quarter of the volume bar and you should be able to run for really long periods.

4- Charge. Lithium Ion batteries do not suffer memory effects, and experience less wear and tear from charge cycles than they do from just plain age. Li-Ion batteries, no matter who makes them or what they're used for, begin to corrode internally from the day they roll off the production line. There's nothing you can do to stop it, so don't play games with the charge by only ever putting it on a charger when it juices out. Keep it externally powered when you can get away with it (plug it in at work, plug it in when driving, plug it in at home, and always plug it in when you're sleeping), and run it on battery power when you can't (like when you're walking).

5- Fragmentation. The biggest villain in the war on battery life for an iPod, particularly for the ones that use regular hard-drives (1-5G and Mini, but not the Shuffles or Nanos) is a fragmented hard-drive. If you see a noticable dip in battery life, step one should always be to empty your iPod of everything and then reload it (or just do that on a semi-regular basis just to keep things running smoothly). See if that fixes it or not. But no matter which brand you go with, don't expect the battery to last more than 3-5 years tops, even if you're using rechargable AAs or AAAs (well, if you've got a few dozen sets of those, they'll probably collectively last longer than that, but...).

Also remember that the Nano has longer battery life than the Video, in part due to the fact that Flash memory has no moving parts where the Video must constantly spin up the hard-drive to read new data. It's also in part due to the reduced screen size, particularly when you're not running the backlight.

You heard WRONG. Right after I got my new Ipod, we tried a little experiment - we just left it on to see how long it would last (the battery).

It lasted 18 hours and 15 minutes, playing both audio and video files in an endless shuffle. I was very impressed!

:) Hope this helps.
