Some artists can use the sales - for the money and to show producers that they are popular. I used to think it is wrong but now that I have the opportunity - I am burning away. Will karma catch up with me like it does with Earl?

Yes, it's wrong. I started using limewire to get songs for free, even though I felt it was wrong. But I discovered quickly that is more trouble than it's worth. There are services that will let you download all you want for $10 - $15 per month, legally and without any hassle.

To me, if a person is sincere that they really would like to do the right thing, but they just can't justify the outrageous prices of CD's where they may only like a song or three, then surely they can afford $15 per month. I mean that's basically the cost of 1 CD. If your budget doesn't allow that then you really weren't buying any CD's at all anyway and are essentially FoS if you use any of the various excuses people use. Just my 2 cents after trying the "free" way for one week.

Some people consider copying/burning CDs as piracy. I think that would vary from CD to CD. I don't think you are wrong to copy them for free. Some CDs can be quite expensive these days. I bought a BBMak CD about 6 or 7 years ago for $17.96! Basically, it was an $18.00 CD! It is the most expensive one I have. I am like you though. I burn some CDs and I like to download songs off the internet and make my own CDs sometimes. Most of the self-made CDs I have are songs that can't be found on CDs that are sold at music stores and Wal-Mart and places like that. They're non-album or never-been-released songs. I say keep doing what you're doing, but just be careful about it.

I'm guilty too, but I don't sell them. Me and my sister exchange Cd's to burn all the time. It is basically ripping off the artist, so there really is no justifying it, but I hate it when I go out and buy a CD and only like 2 or 3 songs on it. Then I feel ripped off!

are u asking a legal question? as far as i know once the copyright of the CD is registered by the relevant authority, it is considered piracy which is an offence in most countries... however, it is quite hard for some governments in this globe to detect and cope with piracy activities and much further to control it... therefore, i am of the opinion that whether it is wrong or not depends on you and your own conscience...

in my country, the local music industry does not earn much out of royalty since not much of our local music can get through the international music industry...in short, no other countries listens to our music that much... hence, piracy would very much effect the income of our local artists...

apart from my answer as above, i still burn cds for my own use... but i dont make profit out of it...

It all depends on your point of view. I personally don't like to, but that's just me. I like to go buy CDs and download music on iTunes in order to support the artists that I like.

On the other hand though, some artists don't make much money on the CD sales anyway. The money for them is really made on tour and doing shows. So some artists don't care how you get their music, just as long as you listen to it, like it, and buy a ticket to one of their shows.

Artist make music to entertain people..if ur entertained then that meets their goals...so don't feel like it's a bad thing you are doing...if anything when u play ur music let others hear so that maybe they like the music and become fans which will give the artist more popularity.
