Ok one night my friends and i were hanging out and when it was time to leave i was backing out. There were no street lights anywere and it was very dark. I started to back out and there were some trees to my left so i started to back out to the right when I hit the mail box. There didnt look like there was any damage to the mailbox and we left. A few months later my friends mom calls and says she wants us to pay for the mailbox. Do i really have to?

Yup you sure do. No matter what the lighting you should be aware of where your vehicle is at all times and what is behind it. Be thankful that wasn't a child behind you.

Yes you do. You damaged it, so you have to pay for it.
