Psychologists and psychiatrists started getting tremendous business in the early 70s--seeing them was no longer considered a stigma. Not everyone did acid--I know, I was there--and worked with the public at a bar!
These days people (including children) are being medicated for every little thing. Back then, the therapy was more of it than were the meds. An acid trip is not heredity anyway.

It does seem a bit funny! No offense to those that suffer depression as i have struggled with it myself but I can think of a few people who would benefit from swapping their prozac for a few hours on acid. I've tried both and although i don't condone illegal drug use, the acid gave me more insight into the world than prozac ever did.

On the serious side, it's because the 'grass is always greener on the other side'. Trippin' Hippies rebelled against their parents. The Hippie children then rebelled against them and so on. It's good in a way because things change, although some for the worse & some for the better

people did not take acid mainly to make the world weird, because to those who took it, the world was weird BEFORE they had the drug.
they took acid, and they looked for truth. truth in themselves and in their life and others lives around them.
people thought that hippies, many of whom were frequent acid trippers, were weird. but remember, people thought Jesus Christ was crazy also.
all in all, they took it to understand what they thought society was hiding from them.

we took acid in the 60's to cope with how shi**y the world was at the time. actually it was a fun way to learn to deal......you should try it. it's great
