I turn off the TV, don't buy the newspaper, won't watch violent movies, but aside from becoming a hermit, how can I become a force for healthy positivity?

What I like to do is....... no matter how empty or run down I feel,
I try to smile at everyone I meet and say hello. The looks, and smiles I get in return, make me feel wonderful. By brightening their lives, I've illuminated my own - and it's a wonderful feeling !!

I found this article.... and it has some good tips in it !
I'm going to go back right now and read the entire article....

Get Negativity Out Of Your Life!
Take a hardback notebook and your most comfortable pen and
start writing. Don`t write about just any old thing, but
concentrate on your achievements. Write about your successes.
Write it so that the pages flow with excitement and enthusiasm
and emotion as you reflect on all that you tackled and won. It
could be major projects, or it could be small tasks that were
major things that you achieved. Keep going. Fill the book if
you feel up to it. Add to the book as often as you are able
and recognize further successes. During those times when you
are not writing in the book, make sure it is readily accessible
and not left on the shelf to gather dust. In those moments
when negativity is thrust at you, take that opportunity to open
up and loose yourself in the pages of your treasure trove of
success. Remind yourself. Relive those experiences seeing
yourself right there. Feel the emotive elation you felt at
that time. This is your positive energy booster that will
thrust you past the negative surge and set you back on your
path to your goals.

When I chant the Hare Krishna mantra, it immediately starts to put me on the spiritual platform because of it being a transcendental spiritual sound vibration. Even better than that is to go to a Hare Krishna temple on Sunday, and get into a kirtan, where many devotees are enthusiastically, and melodiously chanting with mrdanga drums , cymbals and dancing. It is the most positive experience I have had in 52 years. Chanting gets us out of the bodily concept of life, and reconnects our consciousness to the source, Krishna. It's not enough to just avoid the depressing news on the TV and in the papers but that's a great start. We have to fill up our lives with dynamic, spiritual activities. The more we are in service to the Lord, and others, the more we feel the divine joyful reciprocation within our hearts for being selfless in our service. Association with saintly minded persons is everything, for we take on the qualities of those that we associate with. Birds of a feather, flock together !

It all starts with you! When you get up in the morning, think of 3 things a day you are thankful for, be serious and think of 3 different things each day. Have an attitude of gratitude. Then next think that this will be a positive day, I will try all day to think positive.

It is all in how you look at things. It doesn't matter if you turn off the TV or anything like that.

Be content in your standing in life, only work to change you to be the person you want to be. Again it all starts with you! You have the power to change.

Look at everything with a sense of humor and just know that everything counts. Even one person living their life unaffected by the violence around them, refusing to pass it along.....makes a difference!! If you resolve yourself to make some positive contribution every day, even if it's just a smile at someone you don't know on the street who looks like they are having a bad day. Resolve not to hate, to judge, to ridicule. When you make being positive a habit, you aren't as liable to be negatively affected by the world. You are then a force for good. You infect others and pass it along.

Become angry and look at what makes you angry then look for a way to solve the problem that made you angry. That is positive thinking problem solving. It will make your blood boil and that is life.Keeps your pipes clean with all that positive circulatory rush. Don't compromise look always for the best way to get to the goal. If a wall gets on the way go around it, jump it or go under but keep the positive attitude. On the way to that goal you might find a bigger goal keep on with it. Enjoy life it's full of curves.

Think of the solution in terms of what you do not in what you avoid. Help the elderly, teach a child to read, feed the homless etc. The world will have violence whether you pay attention or not. But you can lessen the violence and increase understanding by being proactive

Start to develope the habit of expressing thanks and your appreciation for anything and everything POSITIVE (good) in your life or what others might to to/for you.

Don't dwell on anything negative. Turn it to positive if possible. Otherwise neglect it.

Make sure that others can and hopefully do appreciate what you do to/for them.
