false, inaccurate, anecdotal

I think "anecdotal" would be the best word in this case.

false?

actually the word myth is used by some to indicate a false or untrue belief.

Joseph Cambell argues this very point in a book called Thou art That ... ps. he also explains this confusing phrase.

Joseph Cambell liked to point out that one man's myth is often another man's religon.

Carl Yung and Cambell also go into great detail that all of our socities and cultures have the mythic forms. Cambell is more famous because he is more accessable and his mythic forms were used in the movie StarWars.

from memory they are:
child, student, wanderer, lover, warrior, marytr, wizard.

Although it makes rotten reading (it was one of his first books) the title and thought of "the hero of 1000 faces) is cool.

enjoy

Actually on second thought see "Richard" above his answer is perfect.

Falsehood is one not on the list so far.... but I do like Richard's answer because it is verbose and intellectual. Rhio9's answer is good too.... and sadly accurate.
Mythology is a wonderful subject, don't you think??
