this is a very good question. i have been actively looking and i often wonder if i am not hired because i am overweight. i can't prove anything though because some of the people interviewing were real ******* pigs. so i don't know man. i think it's ****** up personally. if you have the skills it shouldnt matter about your stature. they have things to prevent discrimination of minorities and gays but nothing protecting the fat people.

I have to say this. I am an over weight female. I have medical issues. I have had good jobs and have been head hunted for my ability to the job well. I live in Oklahoma and most people don't pay very well here. But the last job I had, I made $13.00 an hour and have no degree. I now own my own business and have given the people I used to work for a run for their money.

The main reason is that I have confidence in myself. If you go into an interview and don't have the confidence in your self or in your ability to do the job, it doesn't matter what you look like on the outside. All the interviewer will see is the lack of confidence and will pickup on that and will feel it will flow over into the job.

What I do for a living is train people in interviewing, resume and other Pre- employment skills, then assist the new employer and the new hire with follow along service. The people I work with are disabled. Some severely and some mild with just carpal tunnel. I have been able to help people get jobs that other companies couldn't. Because I teach them how to be confident in all areas.

I know it may seem like I am tooting my own horn, but I am not. This is just what I feel.

I had someone tell me that once, that he wouldn't hire an overweight person. On the other hand, my father used to hire very overweight people, as well as people who were overly tall or otherwise "not front-office material" that is, not good looking. He was more concerned with training people and then losing them, and he knew that someone who had a hard time getting a job would be more careful to keep their job and wouldn't always be looking for a better opportunity. But, generally, I think you're right, a lot of places won't hire a really fat person out of prejudice.

Yes. And not only weight. Unattractive will be passed over. Short will be passed over. People of color may be passed over unless goodlooking and sharp. Obviously religious people will be passed over. Effeminate men or masculine-like women will be passed over. Older may be passed over, although experience is universally prized - unless the older person actually looks and acts "old." And so it goes.
But, confidence in ones self can obliterate all of the above as confidence is prized. Confidence can make a plain looking man or woman look interesting, even rather good looking. Clothes can make anyone professional and nice looking to the point that looks are irrelevant. Even an overweight person can look sharp, well cared for with the right, sylish clothes and hairstyle.
So, it all really comes down to one having style and confidence. That levels the playing field if skill and experience are about the same.

HIRING PART IS CHOICE DESIRE AND CONNECTION.
1. They will chose to interview you if you are meeting the qualification.
2. I believe that every human has some type of stereotype( right or wrong0
However as a business owner I do not hire some one based on race creed, religion weight etc.

(but I do take in to considerations. a11 the qualified

b. Did their credentials check our, did they lie on the application (EXAMPLE OH NO IVE NEVER HAS A CRIMINAL HISTORY) Then I print out 10 felonies. So when you are looking for a job (try to look for a job that is right for you.
Ignore the stereotyping and if they violate you emotional or physical
you need and attorney

Depending on the job applied for, a thinner person may be better qualified physically than a more overweight person. Say if part of the job requirements are that you have to crawl into ducting or small areas as a function of the job, then someone who comes to the job interview with a physical stature that is going to be an obvious barrier or hindrance to the performance capability required shouldn't presume that they are hireable.

Weight shouldn't be a factor. It doesn't take away from the knowledge of one who is heavier than one who is thinner. It's unfair practice and I know it goes on. Those that hire heavier people over slimmer people are not professional and need to look for anouther job.

sadly enough, yes the skinnier you are the better your chances, think of all the reasons stereotypically why... 1. because fat people are considered lazy 2. because of medical insurance reasons. 3. because they wont be very produtive and will be super slow. sad but true. plus most people want good looking people to represent and work for their company..

I think an overweight person, provided their situation is not based on a medical condition they are not in control of, reflects an irresponsible person as a potential employee who lacks an interest in themselves to excel.
If you are managing your weight through diet and exercise, and you have it under control, that would reflect an individual who possessed self-control, and a desire to take responsibility for ones self.
