talk to your caterer. they usually work with a few and can suggest them. then go see their work. I loved mine.

the best tip: schedule your wedding on a Sunday thru Thursday. You'll check out all the photographers in the usual way - ie: price comparison, and calling the references they give, and looking at their portfolio.
but the BEST tip i can give you is: once you select one or narrow it down to a few, IF your wedding is NOT on a Saturday or Sunday they will often reduce their price by at least 1/3 if not 1/2. NO KIDDING. because weddings are almost always on a Sat & Sunday they are in high demand.
and any event that is during the week is like gravy for them. Very willing to negotiate! we hired an excellent photographer with fantastic credentials and references for 1/2. our wedding was on a thursday and we also paid her cash.
AND for your 1 year and 2 year anniversaries, they will fall on a Friday and Saturday. Easier to plan a short get away or just to celebrate. Overall I highly recommend a Thursday wedding for the benefits it gives you.

Word of mouth is usually the best, call halls and churches and see if there is someone they can recommend. Congrats and Good Luck!
